Okay: Here's what I recollect from the meeting.

VAFB is no longer using an "A" zone deer tag. It will be solely G11. Season runs from 30 August to 31 December. Anybody eligible to hunt on VAFB may purchase, over the counter at the BX, a G11 tag. That's ONE. If you fill that tag you may purchase another one, probably end of October for military, first week of November for all others. Total issue: 500 tags. Archery is TBD. As it stands now, you can get a California AO tag and hunt on VAFB but you are stuck with that tag. They are working on it.

They are working on a way to get some hunters into the old Area 8 (C5). It will be limited, but fair. This is in progress.

Use fee stickers: one sticker for everything. Military: $50. Everybody else: $100.

The guest program is in effect, FOR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS ONLY AND ACTIVE DUTY ARE THE ONLY HUNTERS AUTHORIZED TO BRING GUEST HUNTERS ON BASE.

n.b. there are a bunch of other small issues covered too like the duration of guest passes etc. that I will elide in favor of brevity.

Horses are now allowed for hunting anywhere on VAFB. They must have proof of vaccination. Designated parking will be developed.

Coyotes are now legal to shoot EXCEPT ON THE MAIN CANTONMENT. All area restrictions still apply.

Blaze orange is required for the duration of G11. I addressed the question of orange for duck hunters and they will make arrangements for them to be exempt.

All in all I think they did a good job.

Ok here's the scenario.

Chuck and I decide we want to come up mid october, what are the chances that the tags will be gone? Can we buy via mail? Otherwise we'd have to drive up and back on opening day to ensure (1) G-11.

And the fee increase, $50 for active duty and retirees? and why the huge increase and what's it gonna be used for?

First the use fee increase: your $50 allows you unrestricted hunting as opposed to buying a small game, pig, and deer sticker at $15.50 ea. Easier on the printer, easier on the license and for those who hunt everything (like me) it's a little cheaper.

My understanding is there will be a total of 500 tags. 225 G11's were issued last year. That means everyone gets two and 25 are left over. (I'm simplifying) I don't think you will have any trouble, but to eliminate that, we might be able to do some stuff remotely. I could get your stuff for you if need be. We'll cross that bridge when it gets here.

Thanks for the update 410. Retirees are not allowed to bring guests? If so, my seabee little brother going to take hunter safety whether he likes it or not, haha.

It's still in the O.I. so you should be good.

Immediate family is described as well and it means, well, immediate. Husband, wife, sister, brother, mother, father, son, stepson, or adoptee is included.

Yes, I know who constitutes the immediate family, but after 20yrs in the AF, I have learned even the most obvious things are not always understood by others and detailed definitions or explanations are need for them to understand.
