We got teased here at VAFB. It would start.... and then just as fast it would end.

Active duty, retired military, DoD, NAFs, AAFES, Chumash Indians or guests of active duty or retired military.

Were the rules changed again to allow retired military to bring a guest? I thought something happened and the base commander said no more guests. I know someone who is retired military and hunts, and is willing to take me along.

The guest program was suspended entirely because of abuses. It is fully reinstated now and retired military can bring guests on other than family members. You're good to go.

I plan on being there on Friday. Maybe Ill see you there. I heard there is a primitive camp ground. I was wondering if anyone would share the directions to it. Thanks

There's 3 camp grounds. The nice one with the RV's...showers etc., the semi-nice one...toilets but not much else besides water and that's on Grant road in C-3. The last one is primitive and that's down by the lake on Washington ave and Lake Canyon RD.

The nice one and the grant rd one still has a fee, not sure about the other one. Never stayed there 'cause its not near any place I hunt.

We'll almost certainly stay at the grant road camp ground. Look for the Camo F-150

I haven't been out in more than a week 'cause we are moving into OUR NEW HOUSE! I might get out Sunday evening. We'll see......

Still no rain; the range is in even worse shape. We had a wind storm Tuesday with wind gusts at 60 mph. I haven't even BEEN on base in a week.

Congrats on the house Alan. My dad and I will be up there Thurs. too, silver FJ. LT, how is that Grants campground? We're always leery of staying there since it's kind of off base and even witnessed people pull off of the 1 to drive by target practice into the bean fields. We're just so used to the FamCamp and even fork up the $30 for the lodge when we're too cold and lazy. Forecasts show rain later in the week. Good luck to everyone out there, hope to see the big one we missed before Christmas unless it fell victim to Alan and crew already.

We dont normally stay there. We will be hunting in that area so it saves some gas. No showers or any of the good stuff like famcamp, but its super quiet.

Question from a amature. How do the hogs react to the rain? Does it bug them, do they stay out longer, or do they not much care? Thank you.

I don't think it bothers them at all, but I'll defer to more experienced folks about that. Since they haven't gotten much rain, I'd think they'd get excited about it..

It doesn't really bother them (rain), but makes it basically impossible to hunt in a lot of the back areas. The roads turn to snot in no time. We have a couple of locals that like to go "boonie-stomping" when it's like that and really make a mess out of the roads. I'd sure like to see them get stuck just once.......

We have a pretty strong chance of rain this week (finally!) so that make it tough to get in where the hogs are. We have not been seeing many out lately, but we're coming off of a full moon. Lots of mommas running around, so be sure of your target.
