Had a wonderful time getting aquainted with Vandenberg this trip. To sum it up, it all came down to our last evening of hunting. We were set up, heard pigs in the thick cover below us... just waiting to blast them when we could see them. All of a sudden the wind shifted and they were gone. What can be done about masking or hiding your scent? I feel like if the wind wouldn't have shifted, I probably would have came home with a pig. All in all, I had a great time, learned alot - and saw alot of black tails...

You can't really mask all your scent. You can try scentlock clothing and/or scent remover sprays (there are many kinds). Personally I use nothing, but I wash my cloths in scent free detergent and when in camp I try to get my hunting cloths away from scents (campfire, food, drinks, etc.). One drop of soda on your pants and the pigs can pick that up. In my experience, and from many other hunters, the best way to cover you scent is to play the wind. All the products out there can help but won't get rid of your scent 100%. So the pigs will eventually smell you.

One other thing. Pigs can smell your skin very well. The human body sheds dead skin almost every second. So there is basicly no way in covering that.

One last thing. Watch what you wash your hands and hair with. If you take a shower at home and the hit the road to hunt, use scent free products. There are many different products out there.

Chadster,

Another installment of paying your dues. Just when you think you know what those pigs are going to do, they do the opposite.

You have to admit that you had fun, though.
