Question - The new tacos say to use premium unleaded. Does anyone with a newer truck use premium (91 oct.) or do you use the standard or plus when filling up?[/b]

Not that its right, but I've ran 87 in my 05 Taco 4.0L since I got it. No pinging at all...

I bought my truck in 1998 and have used mid grade 89 or 91 Octane. It a little more perkier. Plus buring higher octane it prevent cabon build up in the long run and burns cleaner.

Thanks for the info on the gas for tacos. Mine is a 2000 and the manual says 87 oct is fine but since they dropped a larger engine in the '07 and '08 they are recommending 91 oct. I think it is probably overkill but I want to get a new taco this year. If I have to pay for premium gas at well over $4 a gallon I may have to look at something else. I bet the mid grade would be fine but???????????????

I have to agree with the TACO. Comfortable,Gas saving,Roomy to store gear, and will go anywhere.
Here's my 4 banger. I hauled alot of hogs, deer, elk and camping gear. easy in and out. I stop using Mud tires they cupped real fast, even with regular rotations & balance, air pressure. But all terrains get me in and out.[/b]
hey pat
where did you get the front winch bumper?

Four Wheel parts in San Jose. I have another one that fits a F150 or full size bronco for $150-
The one thats on my truck I paid over $700 with 8000 lb Warn winch.
Are you in the market for one? I use to install these things for a living back in the late 80's.
Use to work for 4 Wheel drive place called REDWOOD 4 Wheel drive on El camino near woodside.

OT and I went with a buddy who had a Ford Explorer with regular tires. The first night, he popped TWO tires.
Had to drive 50 minutes North to Bakersfield to get it fixed. Whatever has the best tires is the way to go.

Rubicon Jeep. New four door is killer will go anywhere. 19 mpg and with the hard top on and front doors off it's just a big dog box if your into dogs. Love mine haven't gotten stuck yet on Quad trails and black diamonds at Hollister Hills and you can wash it out inside and out with a hose. Rotate tires though stock mud terrains do cup like all the others.

I would get the Tacoma, for a daily driver and part time hunting vehicle. It will be more comfortable to drive than the jeep, might get better gas mileage, and you can haul more stuff in it. as far as the FJs go, I think they look cool but am not sure how functional they are for serious wheelin.g the picts seem to so they are not that flexible.

Additional, if you kill an animal it is much easier to haul it back in a bag in the bed of the truck than inside the cab with you in a jeep or FJ, Plus the new vehicles are expensive and I certainly wouldn't want blood inside on the carpet.

I am a jeep guy by the way. I wouldn't haul my dogs in my jeep though becuase I wouldnt want them to urinate inside my cab. My jeep is mostly used for wheeling and sometimes deer hunting. it has a 6in lift, 35 inch tires, beadlocks, ARB air lockers front and rear plus a bunch of other stuff

Taco supreme!! I have a 02 double cab with a camper. I logged over 126k and not one single problem with it. Well there was one and that was replacing the cheap factory tire for Toyo MTR. Still a daily driver and during fall it is a full time hunting machine. Almost maintenance free with only oil changes and I spend 900.00 for 100k miles services. Talking about a good investment. I use to have a 00 Jeep Sahara. I bought it use for 16k that was lifted 3" with 33 tires that had around 46k miles. I love that thing. It would go almost anywhere an ATV could but man was it a gas-oholic and not very fun to drive on hwy. Wobble of death! Scare the sh@t out of me. I had oil leaking at 55k and was told to replace gasket and valve covering (i think thats what it is called). Replaced the radiator because it was heating up on hwy or going up an incline at the mtns. Enough with that so I traded in (negative investment) for a 08 tundra.

She figured it out this weekend when the air compressor came on in Pismo. Went over like a fart in church or a turd in the punch bowl, but she's over it now.

New four door jeeps are 100 times more comfertable than the old short wheel base. Carpet is all washable I've spilled blood in mine and other messes many a times looks and smell like new. The Rubicon comes with front and rear lockers, sway bar disconnect, 4.10's with 33" and 4:1 gear driven transfer case. in 1st gear low lock computer control makes it allmost impossible to stall. Just my

I have been seated in the new 4door but have yet had the opportunity to drive one. THey look **** when lifted with tires. The 116 inch wheel base is pretty nice compaired to my tj, so is the 82 cu ft of storage. They do come standard with 4.10 gears as do all rubicons and 32 inch tires (p255 75x17).

Very nice vehicles but still not as comfortable as the tacoma for an everyday driver, nor quite the haulling capacity. BGH831, we should head to HH and check out some of the trails.

Sounds like a plan haven't been for a while and the GMC needs some new dents! That's my other rig for when I'm gonna really get dirty or the wife knows where I'm going with "her" jeep ;-)

My jeep started out as my wife's and looked like this before the Bigworm got a hold of it, he does a great job at fabricating, and installing lifts, probably the best around for a long way.

Yeah Taco is a great choice, but everyone has that little voice in them somewhere deepdown that says I want a Jeep. And with lifetime coverage it's hard to say no.

If you and the Miss are looking at an SUV to solve the "room for family" issue, don't forget about the Toyota 4Runner the new ones with 4x4 and a factory Torsen center locking differential are very good off road and are built on a truck frame like the Tacoma vs. a car frame like the RAV4. This means you can haul more and tow more. Add a two inch lift and some all terrain tires and you are set.
