[attachment=43071:attachment]Last night my son calls me about 8:50 says hes watching a herd of elk in the back yard 20 or so cows and a 5X6 bull just hanging out. No way I could get my camera gear together and get to his place before dark so I settled for listening to he and his wife and daughter describe the view. He says" huge big bull dad you should see him!". His wife says what a spectacular majestic creature I cant beleive its right in the back yard!
Are we gonna kill it dad? says his five year old daughter. No dear were just gonna watch them. The cows are all getting up and starting to walk up the creekbottom he says. Oh Oh the bull is getting up man he is big. I'm just Listening on the cell phone and wishing I was there.
So tonight I offer to feed the dogs and ask the wife to ride along so about 7:00 we head up feed the dogs and drive to the top of the hill and park above the water towers so we can see up and down the creek bottom. An hour goes by. Not a creature is moving save for a bunch beef on the hoof. No deer, elk , hog, cat , turkey nothing.
Then all of a sudden things start moving!

Ev; as long as i dont piss my son off he lets me hunt however having the critters walk through the yard isnt really hunting its just shooting albeit 400yds does make the chase seem a bit more fair theyd be safe enough as long as I was doin the shooting. I am going to set my bench up and whack that coyote.

Daddy63: I can be in the middle of downtown San Jose and get to the middle of this property in less than 30 minutes during traffic.

Kentuck: Im with you on that I newer had a back yard like this either! and Im jealous too!

I'm hoping that the elk are within sight tonight. I havent seen them for about 5 weeks and never on this property so Im looking forward to the veiw and hope to get some good pics.

By the way that group of pigs all eleven of them went into a poison oak cluster just before dark and never came back out!

My guess is that it is on the Hamilton side of the valley rather than the Santa Cruz mountain side. Looking at how dry the grass is, that would make sense to me.
At first I wondered about some places down by Almaden but don't know of any elk down there. However, that don't mean much.

Thanks for the pictures.

Now thats what I call a hunting property a mere 40 times bigger than our back yard. If I'm going pig hunting I'm going for a "Wild Hog Adventure"

Jean; the Hamilton range is exactly the spot.

I'd gladly take either of those backyards over the one I've got right now.

Cool pix.

Speck youre in luck cuz this back yard happens to be for sale. All you need is 9,500.000.00
and it comes with a front yard as well.

Man, I wish I had a yard like that. I also wish that I would win the lottery to get a yard like that..Wishful thinking. Thanks for the pics and dreams..

Like I said, I'd gladly TAKE either of those front yards. Buying them? Not without the lottery in my back pocket.

This morning we had a small bull moose in velvet, and we discovered a clan of weasels playing in the wood pile!
