I find a nice wallow on the property I hunt. I found it around this time last you and have noticed that the hogs use it year round.
I use wondering if there is a best time in which to wait around the wallow for hogs.

The wallows I've seen used are usually hit early in the morning on the way to bed.

Put out a Primos Truth Cam 35 (can be found on sale for $79.00). You'll know the day and time they visit the wallow - then you ambush 'em!

Wildgame Innovations makes a nice camera for about $70. Check BPS.

Hmm. that doesnt really look like a wallow as much as it looks like erosion. Maybe its just the angle of the shot..

Looks like a wallow to me. The post next to it, see how it's rubbed down so skinny at the bottom. People in TX would put a snare on a post like that and come back the next day to collect the hog. Too bad snare is illegal in CA.

Thank you guys for all your suggestions. Trust that is a wallow and active year round. I know the difference between erosion and a wallow.

Pigs on my wallow cam at Tejon would come in around 9pm and midnight. It was dry that year. One pig came through at 9am one day.

Wallows usually stink like a porta potty and if you look close enough you can see the tub like hole they make when they wiggle around in their bathtub. Some times they leave their back scratcher and rubber duck beside the wallow

Over the years of pig hunting, I have found that the pigs use the wallows primarily during the dark hours, and usually leave by first light, if not sooner. There have been a few exceptions on private property that had exceptionally little to no pressure, or in areas of the same, where I have found pigs on occasion throughout the daylight hours. A couple of spots I have hunted, including a current spot, has a small bedding area exceptionally close to some wallows; this particular spot, as you could probably guess is thick with brush and difficult to hunt unless you can get some elevation (looks like you have that covered). To improve my odds, I managed to cut a trail over a ridge so I could have the advantage of elevation working in my favor. Clearly the trail cam will provide unquestionable insight.

Best of luck!

Definetely a wallow. Probably some trees around with a ring of mud around the base where they rub against, kinda like the narrow tree shown.

Good luck. I drilled one yesterday, and glassed some others flopping in the mud at about 3 pm. I don't think there's any specific times they like to mud up besides "when they feel like it."
