My wifes sister and husband just moved to Warsaw...when should I visit them, since I bowhunt for deer? And is there a Turkey season close to the archery deer season. Any whitetail heard in that area? And what is the cost for a non-resident tag and license, are they over the counter purchases?

Dont remember the dates of firearms season right now but archery season runs from Oct.1st to Jan.15th you may take 2 deer and 2 turkey.
You can take either sex turkey but only 1 a day,i think? you can take 2 deer anytime or both the same day BUT you can only take 1 buck before firearms season(1 buck 1 doe or 2 does)you can kill 2 bucks but only 1 before firearms season.
They start getting rutty around the last week of Oct.and the hunting gets better from there up to gun season, after gun season it gets really slow, bow season ends for the firearms season in November(I think firearms starts the Saturday nearest the 15th of November but so that season does not run through Thanksgiving, firearms season is 12 days long.then bow season reopens.
Cannot tell you where to go around Warsaw though. As far as tags go,you buy them over the counter,Wal-Mart will do fine,Non-resident is $100.00 or $125.00 (they raised it awhile back and i lost track but it is one or the other of them prices)you do not need any other license to go with it but you may need a hunter safety card from where ever to get the tag(dont know that for sure,Somebody else know?)

Thanks passthru....wonder if my safety card for calif. will do the trick. I am sure I can get well informed once the relitives get settled. that time of year will be perfect for my schedule too. Is the turkey season anywhere near the deer archery though?

overdrawn,

best time for bowhunting for big bucks is the week before gun season, last week in Oct, first week of Nov., the bucks are chasing does all over and it gets wild. The bigguns get pretty stupid and the hardest part is getting them to stand still.

I'll be back the first two weeks in November to bow and rifle hunt Missouri. Warsaw is near Harry Truman Lake. It is surrounded  by Corps of Engineer land and is open to the public. There is a fork of the lake that sticks out west towards the town of Deepwater. Scout /hunt this area if you can.

We also have a bowhunt get together every October, usually up north in one of the bow only state Conservation Areas. Right now we are in the planning stages for which weekend. I'll let you know if you want to attend.

WHOA!  Y'all are talking about my neck of the woods!  I live on the North side of Harry S. Truman Lake - off C Highway, near Roseland.  I hunt Henry County & Benton County (Warsaw). I've also been fortunate enough to hunt Truman Lake's managed hunt for the disabled for the past 3 years.  I'm entered for the drawing this year, too.  There are many great hunting areas, like spectr17 says.  There are no shortages of deer & turkey!  Be prepared to see some BIG bucks & Toms! :D
