My cousin has been bugging me to come hunt with him in WA. He hunts unit 520, they take some nice bulls. Anyone have any info about this unit? I assume it gets hit pretty hard. Since I have a Tule Elk tag, it would be nice to add a Roosevelt and rocky to the wall.

100% agree, it would be nice to have all 3 on the wall. I have yet to bag an elk, and refuse to settle for a cow. Max points in Ca, and 2 pts in Co, so eventually I will drop the hammer. Once I get my tule and rocky, I plan on OTC on Or for my rosie.

I figure a Tule this year, Rosie next year and a Rocky in 2014. That would look pretty sweet on the wall.

My Daughter lives in Wa. and they tell me that the stories about rifle hunting there are somthing else! Archery may be different. She brought me a set of their Regs. to look at one time and if I remember right it was over 50$ for a Non-Resident to even apply on a draw hunt. I think any Branch Antlered Elk is a Draw for rifle,,otherwise it is a Spike hunt for OTC tags.

You better have some tall walls. My Rocky is 6'9 from the tip of his Horn to the bottom of his chest.

Rosie's have bigger bodies and smaller racks. The country they live in is rain forest jungle. it is NOTHING like hunting other species of elk. Read my '12 trip report at http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/showthread.php/232785-Back-from-my-elk-hunt if ya like...the places these elk call home are brutal.

Depends where you hunt them. Where we hunt them in Oregon the forest is not that thick and the Elk are everywhere. Here is one of the 5x5's and a cow we took this year with a bow. image.jpeg image2.jpg

My cousin hunts unit 520 and says they are OTC tags for bull, but have a 3 point min. I still have to research for my self, but I don't think he would lie to me about that. They took some decent bulls, and some smaller ones, but they hunt for meat so any legal bull is a done deal for them.

Jerryt, those are some huge antlered elk, especially for a Roosevelt. I know typically their antlers are shorter and more compact then the other species. I'm just looking for a solid representative.
