Hunting was a little tuff this weekend with the 100 degree weather and a full moon vanishing by 4:30 am, all in all we were able to have a couple successful hunters, I thought I would share a couple of pics and let kcravnit tell the story when he goes online.

Ok guys here we go....i know the suspense was killing you...
We headed up friday around 1100am and stoped at harris ranch for some fine dining before the hunt...Got to the ranch around 300pm and it was 102 degrees on the truck. Justin aka billy goat met us at the gate and escorted us in...Their property is absolutly beautiful..
We got situated and took care of all the paperwork and took some shots at the range.. We had a party of 4 and 3 of us went with randy in the jeep and we sent the kid with justin. We headed out at 5 or so and the hunt began....here lil piggy....
Justin and the kid ran into a few sows right about shooting time but all had piglets with them, so they had to pass... Randy took us up and down several canyons and dropped me off at the one of thier honey holes where I sat till shooting time was over with nothing but a few cows to be a seen...
The other guys had better luck, they headed way back to the edge of there property and spotted a lone boar heading into the brush, pat the guy in the pic above jumped out of the jeep and took the shot, just wounding it in the shoulder, he shot it again as it started running down the canyon towards them in the neck stopping it, he shot it again as it started to flop around almost going off the edge of the trail to the bottom of the ravine 200ft down.. PIG DOWN.....
<

The next morning justin aka billy goat took me out to find them damn hogs, we headed back to the same area i was at that night and he hiked me up down then back up then back down through some thick ass brush with the bugs out in full force... we walked around to a large rock that just pushes out of the ground about 100ft straight up. we crawled up to the top and glassed for about a hour, but only a lone buck still in velvet was to be found.

That night we headed to an area that they dont hunt very often, and as Randy stopped the jeep billy goat jumped out, looked at me and said u comin or what....I jumped out and followed. We hiked around to the top of the peak and glassed and saw giant beds everywhere, lots of giat pig crap and some deer as well. It was tuff hiking, the moutain is all shale, and i must have fell 3 times...We ran into another large buck this one was huge 20 plus inches wide with eye guards about 5 inches tall still in velvet. As billy goat hiked ahead he came running back and said he had spotted a pig... I followed him allong a trail and glassed a lone pig which i thought was good size about 2000 yards away. 10 mins later we kept hiking down the ridge as best we could, and he stopped to glass the same spot again....another pig ...this one was easily 3 times the size of the last pig we'd saw......it was a monster...im thinking 300lbs or so..and red.
we had no way to get to them so we decided to try it there in the am. as we are hiking down we come across a pig in the thick brush snorting and huffin at us....we couldnt see it but it sounded huge....we walked back to camp to refresh and gt some food in our bellies Oh did i mention it was 112 deg there sat...I think i even got that kid tired, him and randy put in pretty early...

The next morning about 5am we were up on another giant boulder glassing the same area in the dark...this time we were on the same side of the canyon as them at first light justin spots a pig, then another then another....yeah buddy 500yrds away...here we go...we started our stalk down as we got within 100yrds they must have heard us and started running and we gave chase. as we are running after them another comes out across the field about 150yrds or so but wont stop...we keep running after them, as i look of the mountain to the left of us and spot 5 good size pigs hiking up the side about 250yrds across or so. we run the the edge of the ridge we are on and wouldnt you know it, there is a perfect rock to setup up on.. i take aim at the black boar and BOOM....missed low must be farther the we thought....i find the next pig that stops a nice red sow...aim 2 inches over top....BOOM with my -bolt 7mm wsm... we see the hog jump and run 40 ft and as im lining up again she starts tumbling down the hill.....PIGGIE DOWN...Distance must have been 350yrds or so cause im 2 inch high at 100yrds...I hiked down them back up the other side and went a lil high so i could spot her from above....done deal....130lbs red sow...i rolled her down the hill and justin hiked back to the bike...we were back at the cabin by 730am....

This is what i call hunting.....These guys are topnotch...great easy going guys....Randy and J, I will be back in oct for that big one...thankyou again, we had a blast and really enjoyed you and your ranch...
thankyou ..
kelly

Thanks Randy...or was it you Justin....It only took me 3 days to get it up.... Ill tell you guys something, if you go to RNJ and are hoping to stay in the jeep..and dont want to hike a lil...hahaha....then you better go somewhere else or ask randy to tie one up with a chain so that he doesnt chew through it...
That kid will take you places that one slip you may end up on the bottom..
and take the bug spray right justin...haha

Hiking is a definite on that ranch... but then again look at the success rate. Like any hunting trip, there is going to be some work, but the reward is well worth it.

My buddies are over there this weekend, can't wait to see/hear how they did! You know Kelly I was just thinking about the weather situation. This has been one messed up season when you think about the weather. When I was there in March it had been unseasonably warm, mid 70's, until the weekend I go... It snowed on us! Then the weather had been perfect until the weekend you go, 100+ temps. Then the very next weekend from those record breaking highs, low 70's. Perhaps I will get lucky when I go there in 4 weeks, and it will be low 80's. But I don't think I am that lucky!
