Weekend at Tejon Ranch

Finally made it up to the Tejon Ranch for the first time and hunted with my buddy kcravnit and 5 other guys. We stayed at the Cazadora Cabin, hunted the North side hard, and had a blast.

Got up there Thursday night and started planning for Friday. Kelly (kcravnit) and myself were head to a canyon where had had been spotting pigs lately and started hiking and glassing early. By 7am we had already seen 3 Elk and 3 pigs (they were on the move and too far for a stalk). Hiked a little more and came up on 2 good sized pigs. Decided to take the bigger of the 2 and put a perfect quartering away shot right behind the shoulder and dropped her in her place (this was my first pig by the way). Just as the pig dropped, an even larger pig came out from the brush and Kelly shot about 30 seconds after I downed mine. 8:02AM and 2 pigs down.


The ranch was unbelievable and the amount of game we saw out there was awesome. We saw about 50 Elk, 20 deer, 35 hogs, a Mt. Lion, Bobcat, and a Golden Eagle take a Squirrel from a Red Tailed Hawk.



2 more guys got their pigs and we ended up going 4 for 7 as a group.

nice job guys. congrats to u. Are u all members or sum of the guys are guest. i wonder what the fee is to take a guest. I would love to get out there with the Lt. Col sumday. We have never been on the ranch. He lives one mt. range away but no hunting were he is.

Thanks guys. The hunt, ranch, wildlife and experience helped soften the fact that I got a speeding ticket 5 miles from the Tejon entrance and managed to lose my wedding ring the day I killed my pig. Doh!

Well guys as griff has already given you the story and some great pics, I'll tell u that the roads are crap anywhere there is snow melt! One of our party almost went over cliff!!! Took 4 hrs o get him back on road.... Even in my newest toy (2013 jeep rubicon 4 door) the roads were challenging..
Everything is high, right at snow level,or higher. I have been up every Friday for 2 months so I knew where to look and sure enough they were there waiting.
Now if the rest of the guys I was guiding could shoot like griff then we would have 7 dead pigs instead of 4, 2 of which i had to kill!!
