Do you tie a rope on your animal like hang it from a tree while you go fetch the cart? In order to prevent coyotes or cats from taking it?

I on the other hand always bring a rope, and gut it right away so it will cool completely, and count on the gut pile to satisfy the 'yotes and 'coons.

If a cat wants it, you can't hang it high enough.

Sure, also to trust fly to leave their larvae inside, ants to go in, wasps to eat it and all other insects, definitely a great idea. I’ll do it next time.
Besides, I try not to gut an animal before skinning it. It is also from an old timer. Not many hunters do it. I case-skin them which is much more clean.

Anyway, in my opinion and experience, a pig can wait depending on the weather from 2 to 4 hours before it getting gutted. The deer is a different story. But again, it is me

Congrats on a nice public land pig! I was at home sat. night and almost went on a spur of the moment solo sat hunt too but when my alarm went off at about 3:00AM, unfortunately for me, my bed was just way too comfortable.

The sleep felt good but I've been regretting not going the rest of the weekend. I'm in San Jose too and usually hunt solo as none of my hunting buddies really care about pigs (mostly deer and ducks) so it your ever looking for a partner shoot me a pm. And just to clarify, that's not an attempt to get access to your honey hole by any means. Seems like you have a good spot. Keep it a secret. Just enjoy getting bout there with buddies.

No problem guys, we need to get together sometime.
I'd love to invite HKS95134 to our bonfire as well if you don't mind. He is local and seems to be a nice knowledgeable guy to learn from.
But seriously, sure, why not ...

We should get a huge group together and organize a drive.

You get more deer and pigs that way.

Hm, I thought you suggested everyone to stay away from me.
I remember you explain to everyone how bad i'm and why no one wants to hunt with me and i have to hunt alone.
Or it was not you? Changed your mind buddy?

Nice pig and great job. I rarely see others with carts but I have used a 1 wheel cart for 20 years. It has saved me a long packing job lots of times. Interesting about field dressing your game. I have always gutted my animals as soon as I could but when you think about those that took a few hours to track down they were not gutted immediately and I still ate them. I have had a few deer that were dead for a few hours before I could find them and never had a problem. Never had to track a pig for very long so that has not happened yet. On all the hunting shows they leave their animals for hours while they go get help and I assume they still eat them.

2. From HKS95134 We should get a huge group together and organize a drive.

Did you notice how one $#%^@ could ruin perfectly good thread. And it is not first time he does it with his "smart" notes.
Instead of exchanging good advise and thoughts we need to read this crap.

Grow up HKS!!!!! or get help. Please do not post on my threads and i'll not post on yours. Play with your wide field of view 10X50 binoculars, your .45 gun, or whatever, just leave me alone.

Yah yah yah. So you're in this for stokes huh?

Go out and hunt and bag a buck or boar -- that's what life is all about.

Not about strokes. Stroke.

I gut them and quarter them where they drop, then I pack them out in as many trips as it takes.

Nothing will happen if you do not gut immediately, especially if it is not a gut shot. In this weather i'd not hesitate to leave a pig for 4 hour not gutted or even more. This one took me more than 3 hours before i starter skinning.
If it is a gut shot, my thought is like that, the damage is done, anyways you need to cut off a lot of meat, so some more, some less. I'm more concerned about insects. There are some species of fly, larvae of which did not get killed even with boiling, and they can be transferred to your body. It is per my doughtier and she is a doctor.
