Please post your pictures for this week's Weekly Challenge, which is "The US Flag". Old Glory, The Stars and Stripes, you see it flying proudly everywhere, but can you picture it in a different way and capture that image? Use some imagination and try it!

As always, please post all camera info so we can learn a bit.

Lastly and most important, please follow the guidelines that state no picture should be longer than 640 pixels wide. Anything above that will be deleted.

Thanks and have fun!

This is kinda a different image of our flag. This was taken in March of 2002, in the cemetary of one of the Russian Orthodox churches in Alaska. As you know, quite a few Russians settled in Alaska, and many of them are still strict followers of the "old way" of the Russian Orhtodox teachings. But, I thought it was really interesting that the graveyard at this little church was filled with American flags.

I did a lot of work on this in Photoshop, blurring out the church in the background, and highlighting the flag.

Ive got a flag pic, but not really "in a different way" so I'll use the last day to look a bit more

Meanwhile I would like to share an old pic that, a while back, I recovered from a slide. It was taken in 57/58 of yours truly raiseing the colors aboard the USS Raton SSR 270 and was developed into a slide at that time

For you San Diegans this was taken at Broadway Pier, and the scenery in the back ground is North Island. Hmmmmmm, wonder if the "Foot of Broadway" has changed any

Wow, cool picture Leod!!

Here is my submission:

This flag flies over a well known car dealership in West Des Moines, I dont know the whole story but I believe that the dealership owner wanted to honor his son who was killed in Viet Nam. This flag is HUGE I think it's the largest or one of the largest in the state. The flag was stolen at one time, not sure if this is it or a replacement. Enjoy.

Unfurled Old Glory.................

This is not exactly what I was looking for, but for some reason this was a hard assignment for me??

The day was windy, and I'm kinda embarassed how many shots it took to catch the flag open

I feel the same way leod. I wanted to get down to the Ft. Rosecrans to try to snap a few pics but never had the time.

Leod, I think we have the same flag here!

That would have been some great pics, foulshot, Ft Rrosecrans is such a beautiful place. My wifes parents are buried there.

I have a lot of time logged at the ballast point area of Point Loma

My wifes Grandfather just passed away a couple of weeks ago, and the family tried to find a plot for him but they are full. They did find a nice place though.

I'm late but I did get out 2 evenings to shot some flags.

As leod said, it's hard to get them flags unfurled.

Nice shots everyone. Brotherwolf had a great perpspective on that flag.

I shot some flags at the fire station but they came out real bad. I tried to get the flag when they were at half mast for Bob Hope but I missed it. Even this pic wasn't what I wanted.

This flag flies on top Slover Mountain in Colton Ca. I believe the flag is 200 feet by 100 feet. This flag is the biggest flag on a monument in the western USA and it is lighted at night. It's something I see every day and night going to work. It give me goos bumps every time. Someone recently stole this flag and they replaced it quickly.

Info on Slover Mountain.

California Portland Cement Has Been 109+ Years At The Task

By Loren Faulkner

Slover Mountain in Colton, California, was once the backdrop for hunter/trapper Isaac Slover's cabin back in 1842. Before that the local Indians called it "Tahualtapa," "The Hill of the Ravens," and the Spaniards called it "Cerrito Solo," "The Little Hill That Stands Alone." Sometime later, it was determined that marble could be quarried from this 1500-foot above sea level mountain, which stands 500 feet above the nearby landscape. The marble was exhausted by 1887.

Since 1894, however, the hill of mostly limestone has been steadily dwindling as California Portland Cement operations have made cement at on-site mills and hauled it away, sack by sack, truck and rail car-load, for building projects locally and across the world-from the entire Los Angeles City Hall, completed in 1928, to the Hoover Dam, to the San Diego Convention Center and innumerable other projects throughout the decades. The company is one of the foremost producers of Portland Cement in history and has had an impact on the progress and building of California.
