Went back to Big Sandy Wildlife Area for the exact same as my post from a few days ago( pics in that post) Only difference was the tracks and poop were older. I will try some new ground (public all I have access to) and scout. Last to trips was 21 miles 76 flights of stairs but you never know till you try. Any ideas on land within 3 hours of aromas California? I am all ears. In the meantime I will continue my nature hikes while armed.

I can’t imagine a guy that never shot a pig, walking an unknown area with a bow and shooting one. It‘s not that easy. Few guys on this forum are successful hunting pigs and they have been doing it for years. If you want to pig hunt you will need to get a guide to show you where the pigs are and how to hunt them. I have members of my family that are pig hunting the same land as I do. They gave up and asked me to take them out. I have six game cameras that I am always moving around and watching pig movement. I’m not going to an area that I am guessing that might have pigs, it’s a waste of valuable time. Working smarter is better then working harder.Good luck,

The chances of you finding a pig is pretty slim. The chances of you getting a pig staying home is zero. If you enjoy it, keep going on nature walks. Who knows what you might find!

I’m not sure I’d abandon that area. If that wash gets water, it will draw pigs. Also, spring growth will help.

I don’t think I would make it a habit of walking 21 miles each time visiting. I’d be at the likeliest area before dawn and spend an hour in a small area. After that, I’d hit the road. Eventually, you’ll discover when pigs are back. My two cents.

If you think you can..... you can. If you think you can’t......you can’t. I appreciate all feedback.

Thanks I couldn’t agree more. Eventually I will stumble across them.

If you keep trying, you will succeed. I have never bought a pig tag, as I have no desire to shoot one. Long before you had to buy tags, I shot at one with a Model 94 30-30; it was running and 200 yards away. Since then I have had several opportunities to easily take a pig, but was unwilling to pack them out.
I know a couple of places you would be able to take a pig on public land, but there’s not many. I am not sure at my age I could even get there, much less pack one out. But since my son and grandchildren are in better shape than me, I can’t give up the location. Most everyone who does know public land with pigs will not share that info, because there is not much of it. If you keep at it, you will become one of those people.

Good luck, keep using that shoe leather.
