After walking around Love Valley the week before I thought I would give Barker Valley a whirl. Didn't hear a peep or see one turkey or tracks. I feel more like a bow-hiker than a bow-hunter right now. It is a pretty place though with water in the streams.

I had hoped to get in from the west by the observatory but the gates are locked up early in the morning so I drove around to the 79 and took my mini-cooper up the Palomar Divide trail. Poor road but I made it :) The hike in and out was longer than it looks on a map. I think I will take Spaslabs advice and make it an overnight thing the next time I go.

I'm going to go again this week but this time I spied some CNF land about a mile from some private land where I saw a turkey my previous trip to Love Valley. An experienced hunter suggested I get on public land as close to private as possible and call the birds to me. Maybe third time will be a charm for this aspiring turkey hunter.
