Hey Fellas, I finally got around to getting the last of the Idaho pics developed, thought I would share a few more, here's a shot of the 6x5 I promised I'd get on here eventually, as you can see he's kind of an oddball non-typical with the cheater and stubby brow tines, he was heavy though, carried good mass throughout. I took this picture at base camp the day before we packed out.

another picture taken from base camp, this was one of the many fishing jet boats we saw go blazing by us, one of the charters lost a salmon right in front of our camp, same type boat that packed us in and out, they are about 30 feet long and can hold alot of gear and animals, thank god for that!

this was our second to the last trip to spike camp to pack the 5x5 quarters down to base camp, the next day we went up again to break down spike camp and bring it down the mountain.

I just had to stop and take this picture, mostly to give my aching knees a rest,I had about 90 pounds on my back, but I thought it would make a great picture too, if you look close you can see the blue tarp we had over our base camp way down yonder next to the river in the center of the picture.

The muley I killed was standing just to the right of the taller of the two burnt trees that are just left and a little down from the center of the picture, does this country look like it holds game or what? it was unreal I tell ya, looking at the pictures makes me want to hop on a plane and go back, well on second thought maybe not this time of the year, this spot is probably knee deep with snow right now, if it's 35 here in central Florida this evening, can you imagine how cold it is out there right now?

This is all 5 animals back at base camp the night before we left, notice something hanging down from that elk hindquarter? made me feel quite inferior, LOL you have to leave it attached whenever you quarter game like we did, that was the first thing the game wardens asked to see, because they thought they were going to nail us on it, he said alot of guys who drop camp like we did don't take the time, they just hack it off, and they bust them for it, you have to have identification of sex. They about $hit themselves when they saw how much meat we had.

This was the last picture I took while we were waiting for the boat to take us back out, it was raining, so we had to use the tarp to keep our gear dry, we crammed all the meat into 2 huge coolers and 3 smaller ones. I still don't know how we didn't sink the boat on the way out, LOL. Well that's enough pictures, I hope you enjoyed them.

Great pictures. Some awful steep country. I don't envy you packing all that meat out in packs. The last time I hunted elk in Wyoming one of the guys had four plastic tobaggans that we used to get ta 6x6 and 5x5 bull elk down the mountain.

There was a foot of snow. We boned the meat out and put it into two of the tobaggans that we placed inside of each other. Then we put the other two tobaggans on top and laced rope thru the holes where the hand holds were. It made a sled that could be rolled over and not spill the load out. Then we had one guy with a rope on the front steering it and two guys on the back with ropes steering also and holding it back so wouldn't get away from us. We had to make two trips to get both elk. But it worked great we packed it out five miles on the sled.

That might work well also on the open grassy areas like you hunted.

Thanks fellas, I really appreciate all the nice comments, and yes, Liv2hunt, if your looking for the perfect backcountry wilderness experience look no further than Idaho! it is truly God's country, a heaven on earth.

Haary, the toboggan idea sounds like a great idea for packing game in the snow, I will keep that in mind and tell my buddies about that the next time we go, thanks.

GREAT pics and stories !

I just had to see these threads you posted,... I'm going this October for my first time in Idaho for elk. I'll be in the Dworshak B area, zone 10-A. (Bull only)

That is some of the most BEAUTIFUL shots of land I have seen since my time out in the Absorka/Beartooth Area of Montana in 92.

You've really got the ol' juices flowing now,....Come on OCTOBER!!

We didn't hire an outfitter, the three of us did it on our own, which to me is the only way to go, it is much more rewarding to do it by yourself, to me hunting with an outfitter is just killing, it's not hunting, but of course to each his own, it's just not for me.
