A buddy and I will be hunting West Murderers Creek any elk this November. I have been covering maps and trying to read up as much as possible. I have a few areas that SacFire helped me with last year when we thought we would being hunting in 07 but we had to push our help back until 08. I am justing looking for any insight into this area and tactics that might be good for this late season hunt. The Shake Table Complex Fire area from a few years back has my interest, anyone have anything on this area? Thanks for anything you can help with and SacFire thanks again to you for your help last time around.

I too will be in the Murderers Creek Unit, specifically W. Murderers Creek. We went there back in 2001 with a bit of knowledge from someone that had previously hunted the unit. It was realively dry that year (no snow), yet chilly. We saw a animals 4 different times, but nothing we could pull down on. We camped and hunted mostly off NFD 31/NFD 723, venturing out a bit. It was around 5500-6000' elevation in most of the area, but pretty flat in most places. Scared up the few that we saw out of deadfall, passing through and bedded down. We're going to try more up NW from where we were before and see if we can't roust out the herd in some of the more mountainous areas, near more water, in the draws/ravines up towards the Aldridge Mountains, Murderers/Lime/Lemon Creeks. I may have some more information this weekend when I meet up with some of my hunting party. Let me know if you've heard of anything else enlightening and happy hunting!

Thanks for that info guys. Brishick, we too will probably be up high initially up around Aldrich. I spoke with someone that hunted archery earlier and they saw pretty good numbers down lower by Murderers Creek so that might be a spot to check early.

SacFireJT, not sure if you remember me or not but last year you had helped me with some locations but we had to cancel that trip and postpone for this year. I work for SJFD. Hopefully something will pan out. Looking for a bull but will be very happy with a cow. Thanks again.

Hey Joe & SacFireJT,

Thanks for the input. I think we're going to start out hunting up near Aldrich Mountains as we heard from someone that was also recently up there and they said that they spotted several elk running down all of those fingers up there heading south. Lots of creeks in the area as well. We'll probably camp halfway between Aldrich and 31, hunting down off 31 in some of the areas that we spotted elk there last go around in 2001. We'll have five in our group and hopefully we can fill a few tags. We have some meat hunters and some trophy hunters in our group, so I'm confident something is going to hit the ground! Good Luck Joe and maybe we'll see you in the hills!
