Well, those losers in AZ got what they wanted. They are proposing the NR elk tag fee go from $400 to $1,800 next year. While the resident tag only cost $250

That is EIGHTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for a premium elk tag. I figure that will include all of the early rifle, early muzzleloader, and a units 1,9,& 10 archery tags.

Even though I have 5 bonus points, they won't get any more of my money.

I thought NM sucked for NR's.

Good Grief.. That is brutal. Get ready for the fur to fly.

I have 4 points for elk and 5 for deer.

AZ has arguably the best elk hunting but, they may price themselves out of the market.
1800 for tag, 3-4K for guide (if you so desire) thats 6K.

The indian Rez's are getting 8-15K for a better hunt.

They can't expect the average person to pay that amount of money.
That's insane. Now you all know why I quit hunting out of state.
And that point thing is for the birds.

That was my exact thought. What the impact will be on Colorado and over the counter tags.

Please everybody who cares, go to the az game and fish site and comment with your displeasure. Maybe they won't increase it as much.

Do it. I did it yesterday.

people should email AF&G and tell them what they think. If they do pass this raise, everyone should boycott AZ. NO hunting there at all. See how they like it when they get about 25 out of state hunters a year. THey need to have a law that links the price of res tag to the price of no res tags. They shouldn't be able to charge more then 100% more then what a res tag costs. So if they want to charge 1800 for an elk tag the AZ res pay 900. See how they like that.

Hold on boys, you're getting uptight about something that hasn't happened yet. Here is the official announcement that they are asking for public input. I'm confident that Az will keep it in control. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they don't separate into premium units. Ed F

Public input sought on proposed license and tag fee increases Nov. 3, 2005

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking public comment on a proposed increase in the cost of hunting and fishing licenses, stamps and big game tags. The potential increases and the rationale behind them can be viewed on the department's Web site at azgfd.gov. Comments can be submitted by e-mail to rulemaking@azgfd.gov or by attending one of the public meetings that will be held across the state from Nov. 9-21.

"The Arizona Game and Fish Commission has directed the department to develop a fee proposal that will provide revenue to meet the rising costs of doing business, and will address commission-identified priorities for the department," says Steve Ferrell, deputy director for the Arizona Game and Fish Department. "We are now taking this proposal to the public for their input before making a formal proposal to the commission at its December meeting."

Earlier this year, the Arizona Legislature passed a bill raising the fee ceilings under which the Arizona Game and Fish Commission is authorized to establish license, tag, stamp and permit prices. This was the first time the fee ceilings had been raised by the Legislature since 1998.

Any fee increases, if approved by the commission, would go through the formal rulemaking process. The increases would affect licenses, tags and stamps that will be used beginning in 2007.

The public meetings will be held on the following dates:

Wednesday, Nov. 9, 6 p.m., Arizona Game and Fish Department's headquarters, Roadrunner Room, 2222 W. Greenway Road, Phoenix.

Thursday, Nov. 10, 6 p.m., Arizona Game and Fish Department's Mesa regional office, 7200 E. University Drive, Mesa.

Monday, Nov. 14, 6 p.m., Arizona Game and Fish Department's Yuma regional office, 9140 E. 28th St., Yuma.

Monday, Nov. 14, 6 p.m., Best Western Payson Inn, 801 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

Tuesday, Nov. 15, 6 p.m., Arizona Game and Fish Department's Pinetop regional office, 2878 E. White Mountain Blvd., Pinetop.

Tuesday, Nov. 15, 6 p.m., Prescott Resort Conference Center, 1500 Highway 69, Prescott.

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 6 p.m., Arizona Game and Fish Department's Tucson regional office, 555 N. Greasewood Road, Tucson.

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 6 p.m., U.S. Forest Service Supervisor's Office, 309 S. Mountain Blvd., Springerville.

Thursday, Nov. 17, 6 p.m., Arizona Game and Fish Department's Flagstaff regional office, 3500 S. Lake Mary Road, Flagstaff.

Thursday, Nov. 17, 6 p.m., Quality Inn and Suites, 420 E. Highway 70, Safford.

Friday, Nov. 18, 6 p.m., Arizona Game and Fish Department's Kingman regional office, 5325 N. Stockton Hill Road, Kingman.

Monday, Nov. 21, 6 p.m., Windemere Hotel, 2047 S. Highway 92, Sierra Vista. The December meeting of the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, at which a formal fee proposal will be made, is on Dec. 9-10, at the Francisco Grande Resort, 26000 W. Gila Bend Highway, Casa Grande. The Arizona Game and Fish Department prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, or disability in its programs and activities. If anyone believes that they have been discriminated against in any of the AGFD’s programs or activities, including employment practices, they may file a complaint with the Deputy Director, 2221 W. Greenway Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85023, (602) 942-3000, or with the Fish and Wildlife Service, 4040 N. Fairfax Dr. Ste. 130, Arlington, VA 22203. Persons with a disability may request a reasonable accommodation or this document in an alternative format by contacting the Deputy Director as listed above.

It's a nonending debate locals vs. non locals. People living in Bishop not being able to hunt near their hometown. Residents seeing local hunting areas w/many out of state plates on it, ietc.
Nevada raised elk tags to around $1,000 and they still get more apps than they have tags.
I think for certain people w/lots of money or good saving habits, sadly i am not one, this will seem like a blessing b/c they will have much less competition for certain desirable tags.
They may get a specific tag every 4 to 5 years.

I wonder what the "standard" tag will cost.
That's were Joe 6 pack gets it w/out the lube.
If it stays "reasonable" more apps for fewer tags, ceterus paribus.

I don't think a N R hunter boycott will work.
Tha same way that not buying gas for a day doesn't work.
If a lot of people boycott AZ, including standard tags, I will jump in and take advantage of the better drawing odds, if I can afford it. Sad but true, but heck, I want to hunt.

It takes Numbers and proof to change minds. Hopefully, things will work out.

This just another in a series of the states trying to make NR pay for all services. AZ is not the only state that has mentioned raising fees like this...

Hey Ed I also hope they don't go the UTAH way, (premium units), but the way that sheet reads it look like they want to move that way.

Class A Deer Proposed NR fee $662.75
Class B Deer Proposed NR Fee $225.25

Class A Elk Proposed NR fee $1800.00
Class b Elk Proposed NR fee $587.50

I hate to say, but it will only get worse in the years to come. Just look at other states

Nevada Elk Current NR fee $1,200.00
UTAH Limited Elk Current NR fee $795.00 - $1,500.00

There will always be people willing and able to pay the HIGH FEES. Did you guys apply in Arizona this year with the added burden of sending all the $$ up front? I did and guess what I will do it again next year, GOD willing.

Thank you USO... :smiley-shakehead-blue.gif:

What are you saying? That USO caused this?

My two cents......

It's people with that type of mentality who are making these types of decisions, within the Arizona Game and Fish Dept.

By raising the rates to almost 10 times what it costs a resident, they are projecting a "we'll show them" attitude towards all of us non-residents by deturing us from hunting in Arizona. This was not USO intentions. They are only trying to make if fair for non-residents to be able to enjoy the outdoors and make it fair for everyone. Residents do deserve some preference, but to allow them to exclude the average working hunter, who saves all year for a quality hunt and for some, a hunt of a lifetime, they are setting precedence and taking this too far. Where is it going to end? Is McDonald going to sell a value meal to residence for $5.00, but for no-residence, who need to show proof of residency, they will be charged $50.00!

I wonder how much revenue is generated to local businesses from non-residents hunters? I would imagine it's quite a bit!

Arizona trid limiting the amount of tags available to non-resident hunters. Is it fair that a state takes federal money for game managment, nonresidents should not be excluded either, or priced out of hunting? Arizona federal lands, owned by the people of the United States, is there for everybody to enjoy. Every citizen, resident and non-resident alike.

Don't try and put blame on USO for this. They seem to be the only ones trying to stand up for non-residents and make fair chase hunting reasonable for everyone.

Being from NM, I know all about USO. Believe me, they don't give a crap about how much you are paying for your tags. The higher the better for them as it will probably improve the drawing odds of their clients.

What they were really hoping for was to get the drawing procedure changed to give NR more tags. Well, that failed, but they got the next best thing. Less competition from non-USO clients.

I think AZ sees NV, NM, and Utah getting a lot of money for their NR tags and feel thier hunting is just as good those states. Can't really blame them but it still sucks.

If it were just the price increases, whatever they want. So be it. But, what about those who have upwards of $1000 invested in the license for points scam. A useless license bought only for points. If they can not afford the unreasonable and unexpected price increase, can they get back the past license fees? With a long term deal like a points system, you expect price increases along te lines of inflation. Otherwise, you may not have chose to buy into the system.
