Would you buy that brand of spotting scope again?

What model of spotting scope do you have?

What are the best and worst things you like about your spotting scope?

Do you use a tripod and if you do, what brand and model of tripod?

BSA 20x60x60

Things I like are easy to adjust knobs without shaking the tripod, good eye releif, built in sunshade.

The only thing I don't like is edges of view are a little blurry sometimes.

Tripod. I believe is a cheap Pentax. the leg locks have broke twice, and it is not very smooth.

I have an old Kmart brand tripod that is solid metal. Super smooth, and almost bullet proof.

Buy again? Possibly, I would look at some of the SLR scopes for their compact size and clarity.

Who's going to come along and break this tie?? (no cheating)

Jesse,

Just cause you made the poll doesn't mean you can't vote too!

Most of you guys and gals would not like the spotter I am using now. Big and heavy, and long Pentax 20x60 power with 80MM objective lens. The zoom eyepiece alone is almost as big as a Campbells soup can. But it fits in a daypack, and can be used with just a monopod; but it is at it's best on a tripod with fluid pan head. I'm going to order a new bogen lightweight tripod, my old one is nice, but too heavy and bulky to pack. Talk about "reach out and touch someone" -- the only limitation to the edge to edge astronomical quality of the lens is the mirage that builds up when the sun heats things up. What a beauty it is, and at 20x setting, I can use it hand-held. I've cut down on a few of the other backpack items to bring down total pack weight just a bit. Hmmnnn, I just might have to take it to SoCal beaches next summer and see if I can spot any albacore boiling in the surf!!! :)

I bought the Nikon 15x45x60 waterproof unit. Not as good as their reference scopes or the Kowas, etc, but fairly compact and rugged. I just can't see humping a Kowa or other really expensive scope into the boonies - I don't think they could take the banging around.

Mine didn't make the poll list: Alpen.

Inexpensive, light, waterproof and great image quality.

I have had a Baush&Lomb now for 4 yrs. It's a 15-45x60mm Elite. It's waterproof and has PC-3 phase coating. Plus it's nice and compact. Awesome optics, I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

One window mount I can recommend is a Tasco (yes tasco), it's the best out there. I have a Bushnell window mount too, and it sucks. The Tasco is built like the Leupold one, small and compact, but is better, stronger, and cheaper. I paid $25.00 Can. All my friends went to the Tasco window mount, and they all agree. So if you can still find one, buy it! Heck buy two!
