What do hog hunters do during the summer?

It seams there is a little less conversation in the hog hunting forum, maybe with the weather heating as summer comes, people are less inclinded to go out and hunt hogs? Maybe getting ready for deer(etc) season? Do any of you guys like hunting pigs during the summer and what are some tactics and special methods that make it more fun and productive? If not then what else do you hog hunters do during the summer?

It looks like I will be taking a trip up to FHL in the next couple weeks before my permit expires, is anybody else thinking the same thing and heading up there? This last weekend all areas were closed except 29 & 30, Rannie (if you're reading) or anyone else have any idea if it will be that way the rest of the month?

Hog hunting during the summer is not fun, let alone hunting anything in the summer in SoCal. If I hunt during the summer, I hunt the first two hours of sunrise and the last two hours of sunset. If your hunting pigs at FHL, look for water. The pigs shouldn't be far. The training areas you mentioned, 29 and 30, are good places to try, but both of them boarder private land (?), and on this land there is plenty of water, so the pigs will most likely be on the other side.

One thing is for sure, you never know what will happen. Go and give it a shot. Good luck.

Hi bjake21,

First of all, if anyone tried to listen to the weekly update on the information line, SORRY I couldn't update it for you all... the guys at Range Control were giving me the run around and not giving me a definate answer as to what areas are open this weekend. I stayed 2 hours past my closing time just waiting for clearance to any available training areas just to hear one of them tell me "call back tomorrow at 9am".

But anyways, I'm not sure how the next couple of weeks/months will be like at FHL with all the training happening. The rumor is there will be lots of training especially with the marines's arrival. Don't worry, I'll keep you all updated of course.
