What fear or concern do you have about hunting Afrcia

I hear all the time that guys dream of hunting Africa but worry about guns being taken away or the government going bad and causing trouble. Write your concerns down and I'll tell you what is real and what is a Hoax. I travel there multiple times a year and work there as much as 3 months per year. Maybe I can help you understand where these stories come from or ease your concerns a bit. Some bad things can happen in some countries but if you research the trip and pick the right country you will have a blast and never feel the slightest bit of stress.

Remember there are approx 60 countries on the African continent. Africa is not a country. All have different governments, policies, and their own problems or benifits.

South Africa and Namibia are the two easiest countries to deal with in political climate and gun importing for hunting. Zimbabwe is a problem now although most safari companies will sheild you from the trouble and all are in the bush far from the troubles of the cities. The bigger problem now is the president Robert Mugabe is taking all the white owned property and returning it to the black military leaders. It's a huge problem which makes the stress of politics there uncomfortable for most people. Zambia is another great safari country but they have shut down all hunting in the past without notice so I would ne a bit apprehensive about planning a hunt and having it shut down. Private land hunting should be fine but government consessons would make me nervous in Zambia.

South Africa is a dream to hunt. The customs and immagration welcome you. In over ten years of multiple trips per year I have never even had my gun case opened for inspection! Hunting in South Afrcia and getting your guns in and out is easier then coming back home to the United States with your guns!

    How much would a cheap, or low end hunt run? I'm not talking about rhino or anything. Ok maybe cape buff. I heard about many different medical problems people are worried about. How much, if any, concern should be placed when visiting africa. A friend has been a few times and said it was (something like) $ 3,000 for 8 animals. Sounds low to me. Is this normal? I'll probly think of more questions, but thats it for now. Thanks for the info.

There are lots of dirt cheap hunts in Afrcia but the "bait and switch" is normal when you go there for these really cheap hunts. What I mean is travelling all the way there and then finding out your going to hunt on 2000 acres for game that was released some time before you arrived. other wise known as "put and take" or in the worst case "canned hunting". You cannot expect a landowner to provide trophy quality wild free roaming game on enormous properties for those cheap prices and guarantee you 8 animals in 7 days!
