Just passing on the info and pics as they were given to me. But what do I know-- I'd rather be diving and fishing.
Still a right nice pig if you wanted to mount it- don't know how good it would be to eat.

Great pig, yupurs. Thanks for sharing. A big congrats to your friend.

The only other resources I can think of would be SCI or Records of Exotics. Regardless, you can't argue with that monster skull and tusks. It's worth having it professionally cleaned - to go along with any taxidermy work.

Thanks for showing the fact that you did get it to a scale and it wasn't just a guess of the weight. Sounds like some won't believe anything unless you have a certified pigologest there to record the vital information. And signed affidavites by creditable witnesses. Oh well!!!

I've seen some monster pigs, sows mostly, that I'm sure were over 300lbs.

I've also seen lots of feeder steers.

That pig is certainly big, but certainly not 900 lbs.

You're right. Looking at a picture isn't enough to see an exagerated 500lbs. of hog on the ground, or to be able to tell black hair from white hair, or Hampshire from Duroc. Anyway....As long as we can't question pictures that are obviously exaggerated, I have a picture of a 53" wide coast buck. Want to see a picture of it? The thing was huge. Took 4 guys to load it up.....and that was just the front half.

Not trying to beat a dead horse or stir the pot anymore than it has been, but just thought I'd post this pic from the Bear forum. It's estimated to weigh 725 lbs. Said that it bottomed out on a 700 lbs scale. Just thought it was a good comparison as far as size goes...

Great pics. That one would make you think twice before slingin an arrow at close range. How many dogs total on this guy if he tore up 5 he probably would never have been found without the dogs to begin with.
Nice going he'll take up some space on the wall.

Great hog. As far as comparing it to the one lurediver posted, that pig was about 450# as I remember it. If you look at both pictures, the shoulders come up almost to the person's knees and the length is about the same, if the hunters are about the same height. One picture being taken closer up makes it look a lot bigger, but they are probably pretty close to the same UNLESS one hunter is a lot larger than the other. To me they look close to the same. Secondly, Yupurs' pig has notched ears which means it was at one time a domestic. From what he said, it has probably been wild for about five years. I could definately see a pig surviving that long in the wild. I remember seeing the pig that Lurediver posted. I did the skull mount for it. It's ears weren't notched and a lot of people on this site still claimed it had to be domestic even though they never saw it. I've seen some big pigs come off private and public, so I'd believe anyone if they bought me enough beer or took me out with them next time. LOL.

I checked with a friend of mine who guides and has had a lot of clients' pigs scored. He explained how they score pigs. Basically, after the teeth are removed, they measure the whole length. There is more to it, but that's most of it. He said he can get me on a ranch about an hour north of Colinga where the top two pigs in CA were taken.

That hog, even at the size it is, isn't a dog wrecker that would tear up 5 dogs. If you knew anything about running hog dogs you would know that the big fat oinkers like that get stretched faster than a 50#er, and catching 10 year old hogs are like catching a 90 year old man.[/b]
Bingo!

The images are definitely two different hogs; ears, noses, and tusks are distinct in addition to the coloration. The coat pattern seem different as well.
