I used to use camo face creme but I hate scraping that stuff off. I tried a full face mask but to me they are hot and drive me nuts. A 1/2 face mask has worked for for me except when the bugs are really bad. If I'm in a really buggy area I put the full G.I issue bug head net on.

A human face is one thing that is really easy to pick out in the forest or mountains. While flying in helos in the service we could easily see when peple would look up from several hundred yards above them. Prey animals freak when they see the two eyes forward looking at them.

What do you use to hide your ugly mug from Tommy 3 Toes?

I used camo paint until I forgot one morning and met a client after an early morning archery deer hunt. They kept looking strange at me and seemed uncomfortable... Got back in my rig after our tour of their property and got a look in my mirror

My face was still painted an ugly brown and black. OOPS!!! Now I use a face mask for camo on my face!!

In the early part of the season, when it's still a tad chilly, I use a Mossy Oak Hawkeye full face mask in Break up. Once it starts to warm I have several differn't brands of the mesh type full face mask. I never really could find a half face mask that I cared for and gave up the makeup back in the early 90's.

I use a 3/4 face mask which I keep around my neck and when the action gets close, I can slip it up and on in a second. You mentioned bugs. I discovered something a few years ago when I was planning a trip to Texas for rios. The Texas Game & Parks Dept. had a little flyer that came with their license on ticks and lyme disease. After reading that, I bought some bug repellent that contained Premethrin which you put on your camo only and not on your skin and has a life of 2 weeks. Then on the morning of the hunt, I would spray my hands and face with a repellant that contained DEET. There were 7 of us and after the hunt, I was the only one who didn't have a tick on them. We were at the airport to come home and 2 of the gang were still pulling ticks off. I did the same combination of repellants last year on an osceola hunt and not one mosquito messed with me.

I have used face camo, headnets, etc. I now use headnets because I often hunt before work and it requires no cleanup--just take off! I am particularly fond of the ones I have called spandoflage. They fit very snug against your face and do not inhibit your peripheral vision. Afraid they don't help with bugs much, but the bug sprays gobblegig mentioned will take care of the bugs.

I just use an old full head net in some kind of camo design. Works good for me.

On the Outdoor Channel last week I think I saw them selling packets of water transfers kind of like the tatoos the kids play with. They were used for face paint and came in a bold camo design. Looked pretty neat but I don't know any more about them.

Anybody know anything about them?

I like the ½ masks cause I can wear it down around my neck till it's needed then it's a simple thing to just pull it up.

Yeah, shoveler, I did the same thing with the camo paint once. Went in a store and kept wondering, "Why is everyone looking at me so much?" Got a nose itch and when I scratched it I noticed my finger was black. "Oh crap!" I had been in 3 other stores before this one.

Powduck,

Thanks for letting me know I am not alone in that! If a guy can't laugh at himself he is a poor excuse for a sportsman!! May your birds gobble and your bucks stay on the right trail!!

I use the same full mask that I've been using for 3 or 4 years now. It smells pretty bad - but it still works!!! Plus, I feel like a ninja when I wear it. LOL.

I have camo ball caps with the headnet attached, use them for turkey and deer. I do not have to worry about the reflection off of my eyeglasses with the full headnet.

Metalkingdom's post reminded me of the "stinky face mask syndrom" and the cure (aside from actually washing it, ugh).

Spray the heck out of it with your no-scent spray that you use deer hunting. Dang, it makes a heck of a difference.

I use the full face mask by Quaker Boy. It has a soft metal frame that I can shape around my eye's. I also use it when bow hunting. Shapes nice around the bridge of your nose so it doesn't interfere with shot.

I wore a full mask for 3 seasons but switched over to face cream last season even though it's a pain to wash off. It's just more comfortable for me out in the field to have the cream on rather than the netting, I don't have to fiddle with keeping it it adjusted just right and it's easier to spit my tobacco without having to lift the darn thing every time.

The bug repellant does wonders for keeping most of the bugs off. Next time season I'll be sure and spray my hindquarters with it too after sitting in a nest of ticks that were buried in mast. Ended up having to bug bomb my truck after that little ordeal...even after changing cloths, I kept finding em everywhere.

wmidbrook, that tobacco juice can be a real mess when you forget to lift.

Been there done that.
Ever tried using a diaphram call with a chew in your cheek? That don't work too well either.

No Powduck, can't say I've tried mixing chew and the diaphram call--don't use a diaphram in the field 'cause I haven't been able to get consistant enough with the darn things.

I do have to rinse a wayward fleck or two out of my duck call on occassion. I carry an extra bottle of water around for that.

Half mask, even though I screwed up in voting and hit nothing. Can you imagine me setting against a tree fully camoed except my face?!?

I bought a Hawkeye full head net 10yrs ago that is very, very light.
I spray it with Permanone and Deet Spray (as mentioned), then put it on and in position at the truck. I then flip the whole front up an back, then put a baseball style MO/BU hat on. When I'm ready to sit still I take the hat off and flip the mask back into position. Now there's no bill at risk of being seen when scanning slowly back and forth.
