I hate to say it but Back Country's first post was classic.
<
And Nature Driven's rebuttle was even better.
<

Anyhow, seeing as though this a free public forum, and not a college english course, I think responses are better directed towards the question at hand. I think Speck hit the nail squarely on the head. Learn and move on. Good luck on future hunts.

I apologize for my lack of paragraphs and punctuation. While I was typing thread my mind was racing with thoughts on how to put story together and try not to leave out any details. Anyways, thank you nature driven for giving me a break. I didnt know it was required to be an english major to put a thread on this site, since most of the threads that i have read on this site have been poorly written.
I thought that I could pose a question on this wonderful site and receive some helpful information. I realize now that I have to know "THE SECRET HANDSHAKE" to be able to pose a question. One more thing, I guess I need to read the website all day and criticize peoples writing styles instead of reading and learning helpful information that is posted on this site.
Anyway, thank you to those who actually took the time to read my thread and try to understand my dilemma and offer some helpful insight so that others may learn from my mistakes and inexperience.

There is no way I’m going to pay $500 for a chewed up 60-70 lb pig. But I also would not have shot it before saying “You know this is not my pig, right?” If he would have said “This is your pig”, I wouldn’t have shot it.

Good luck next time.

One thing you'll learn, Hitman, is the value of thick skin when it comes to this site. There's a lot of different opinions, attitudes, and characters out there so don't let it get to you. Everyone is welcome to their opinion, but it's up to you to weed out the ones that aren't so helpful...or polite. Don't let this post detour you from a great site.

I've never paid for a prostitute or a guide.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Hey BC, I thought I was the resident sh******, um, ......"manure" disturber around here.

I think you got some good advice along with the dross. It sounds like you would prefer a spot and stalk method, preferred by many, and that's what I would look for in a guide. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with using dogs either, but it's a totally different method from judging a hog placidly feeding on a hillside before going after it.

Keep hunting! Have fun! Shoot a big pig!

And most of all; POST THE PICTURES AND STORY HERE!

Merry Christmas.

Cencs wen did JHO beacom the knew English languege korse?

Hitman's a fairly new member asking for a little advice and the forum turns into hooked on phonics. Give it a rest or give some advice in regards to his questions. He's not asking for a critique on his paragraph or punctuation.[/b]
I'm under no obligation to read through crap that is poorly punctuated. If anyone wants a serious answer from me, they will be best served by cleary presenting their questions using English as it's meant to be read... with paragraphs.

If anyone doesn't care about the quality of responses then they can go ahead and continue to attempt to communicate like a 2nd Grader and expect the equivalent in return.

Backcountry: Maybe you should put a post a new topic in the "Read here first" section of each forum that shows the rules and regulations for proper spelling and grammar techniques for new members. Would you like us to use APA style formatting? Just let us know so we're all on the same page.

Also, can you spell and grammar check the following for me, then re-post it?

So I ges yu beacaim Hal Maunitor ov the prroper Englash etikette on Jesse's?,and yu'r absooolutely riet, yu ar undir no obllugaetion to reed throuh crap. i think you have gotten some great advice. i want to check out hog hunting with dogs bigtime...just to see it done. your description was graphic...i hope to see a more poetic ending, but i assume dogs just do what dog do..

dont worry about the english 101 lesson. you were ranting, ranting looks like ranting.

i think spot/stalk is the coolest, but maybe the least productive method.

Sounds like the little hog needed to be dispatched. If you had an understood agreement ahead of time that you wanted a larger pig, the guide should have kept hunting you, even after that small pig had to be killed. If your agreement was never clear and you were to simply shoot the first pig that was caught, the guide did his part. Take your ball and go home. Next time make sure there is open communication ahead of time. I've found that some guides aren't necessarily the greatest people persons out there. They may not be the best communicators, especially with novice hunters. It is then becomes necessary as a hunter to make sure everything is 100% clear and perfectly understood before hitting the field.

Given the degradation of the English language in both written and spoken form, and for the sake of linguistic integrity in our society, I'm glad we have cops on this site like Rancho and Backcountry.

dang!!!!!!!! this went from some1 asking a question to a god damn english lesson? when i joined this site i thought it was a place for us to share stories, get advice and talk about hunting. it has now occured to me that the majority of guys here that like to rip on peoples posts, do pretty much that. no stories from them , no dead hogs, just '' you didnt spell that right'' or thats not a proper paragraph''. it seems to happen way to much. it seems to me that these people spend way to much time in front of a computer and not enough time in the field. get out there and give something a dirt nap!!! good call there 257

Hitman, You don't need to know the secret handshake. But the atomic wedgie is useful knowledge around here. All ribbing aside, post away! All are welcome at JHO from the seasoned spear (up)chucker to the guy that dives lures. We welcome your question. As Catman said, thick skin is a virtue, but I'm sorry if it seems that it's a requirement. Somehow I think that's not what Jesse wanted.

As for the question at hand, I think the serious advice above is all in agreement:

Once you shot the pig, your option to say something was over.

If you had agreed on a larger pig, then perhaps you should have discussed it before you shot that one.

The guide either didn't understand or didn't care about your concerns for a larger hog, so I'd either touch on that, or write him off to bad experience. The difference would be based on which you think happened. Did he really understand your wishes?

I agree that the pig needed to be shot, but unless he gives you the go-ahead with the understanding that it's not the pig, then the decision to shoot it should have been his. If he hadn't shot it or given me the go ahead, I'd never use him again.

With that much said, I hope you can mark it up to experience and give it another go so you can ring up a big 'un. Then post those pics on JHO so we can give you the virtual high-fives!

When using parentheses to set-off enumeration within a sentence, proper usage rules regarding capitalization and punctuation still apply.

Clearly it is “clearly”.

Postscript in modern usage is one word and abbreviated as ps. or PS. Traditionally it was 2 words and the correct abbreviation would be p.s. or P.S.

Don't make me set your "warn" meter to 66%.

Good post!

Of course there was a comment on how we need policing due to the lack of standard usage within our forums.

I'm sure you were just fooling around with us because obviously it is "degradation".

All tongue-in-cheek.

That's my goal! I want to get to 66%, then see how far I can push the envelope!!! "Messing with the moderators!"

I posted a link a while back to a song full of f-bombs and nobody even commented about it. Ol' Belch must have been taking a nap that day!

As far as thick skin goes, anytime you post anything on the web, you are fair game for criticism (bring it on!). Take your time, communicate clearly and proof read before hitting send. It's like a bullet, once it leaves you can't put it back in the barrel. I generally ignore poorly written posts.
