Where are all the ELK stories?

I don't have my elk hunt until late October...so I am wondering where all the early hunt reports are!?!?!?! Come on boys, post up the good, the bad, the ugly!

Most of the archery hunts are in Sept. I'll have a report for you sometime after Sept 14th. Oh yah!

I was out after them for the last 3 days in Utah. I heard a few of them and actually had one walk up to the closed side of my blind and sniff it. I of course couldn't get a shot at it. I was hoping it would move to the other side of the blind so I could shoot, but no dice. I'll head up again in three weeks when the cold weather has pushed them lower and they are talking more.

the general hunts don't start til sept 14 in arizona. what kind of tag do you have?

I won the AZ Super Raffle Elk Tag. My hunt runs from Aug 1, 2007 - July 31, 2008 any unit.

Congrats on that tag and good luck. Are you going guided or DIY? If you happen to pass on any 350-type bulls in 7west, please let me know. If I see any monsters in 9 or 10, I'll try to get in touch with you. Send me an email if you'd like. I'm leaving on the 30th to scout and hunt deer for four days. And, I'll be back over there on Sept. 12th for the real deal.

Sept 1st for me. Had the tag 2 years ago and jinxed myself by posting about my scouting and hunt. No jinx this year. May not even carry the camera with me.

Give me a couple weeks. I head out to start my hunt on 9/14-9/21. If nothing else, there should be some stories and video.

I've seen some dandy bulls in both places I've been deer hunting (SE & Southern). I do not film while I hunt--that's too much for me. I heard some bugles/chuckles last weekend. I'll kick it into gear on elk when I go to Wyo in a couple of weeks.

Also, I am consumed with trying to bag a decent buck with my archery tackle so I've avoided the relatively crowded areas that are open to both elk/deer here like the Uintas, Manti, Current Creek and the Wasatch and concentrated on areas with higher deer densities. All those relatively crowded have thinned out a lot this week compared to last.

I was out in Southern UT deer hunting in a unit closed to elk hunting except with a limited entry tag. Works out good 'cause I can do day trips there from my brother or sister in laws.

There was a little bit of bugling going on so I decided to do a cow call or two to warm up for my Wyoming hunt. I had a HUGE 6x6 run from a hill about 1000 yards away down to the valley and up the hill to about 100 yards below me. He then did the "I am here" grunt and I responded with a cow in heat call...he charged up the hill behind me and was thrashing around...I had to bail off the hill it was almost dark. I get back to my truck and saw a different 370 or 380" class bull feeding by his lonesome...watched him for a few minutes until I couldn't see any more due to it being dark. I also glassed up a herd of 70 - 80 elk almost a mile away or so on a distant mountain top.

Monster, I'm heading back down to Montrose, CO. Lots of elk, but not many monsters. The guy I'm hunting with, Rick Webb at Dark Timber Outfitters has put me on 'em before, though. That's with the rifle, though. Hope to make this my first successful big game bowhunt!

Speck, you're in for a treat! Nothing gets the adrenaline pumpin' like a bull elk coming in to your setup, especially if he's in a screaming rage. Hairs on the back of my neck are rising just thinking about it. Pick a spot and good luck!!!
