I know I have asked this question before but I figure there are more people joining JHO all the time so.... I was wanting to do some pig hunting. I live in Susanville but I drive to Redding all the time to see my daughter. I was wondering how the pig hunting has been up there and if anyone knows of some good areas. I would like to get one but I would also like for my wife to get something. She has been deer hunting for a few years now and has been getting close (she would have had her first one if she would have just remembered to take that safety off hahaha). She hasn't gotten discouraged because like me she believes just getting out is whaqt it's all about. anyway any info would be appreciated.

I'd go with Burrows Ranch,Mr Burrows Guides and the wife feeds you and yours @500.00 a head. There's always Dye Creek Preserve. Shasta Outfitters offers pig hunting ,they have a ranch with guest house and the guide prepares all meals.I had a great hunt with them and the guide Kyle Fox was great. No trophy fee and the guest house is as comfortable as it gets @1000.00 a head. Tehama wildlife area offers pig hunting i don't know what kind of sucess rate it has .

For free BLM land with low success- You may have to look towards Willets (sp?
<
) to get into free roam of pigs and hunting opportunities.

If you look on the DFG website- they have in a .pdf dile the land opportunites for BLM land.
<

But if you look under the "Upland Game" section for Quail- their .pdf file is more delailed near the area you wish to hunt that is closer to you.

Now if holds any pigs or nit (I think there is a good chance) that is up to you to tell us from "Personal" experience.

I have tried 3 years the LP owened forrest From Point Arena some time back when I had a trespass slip- in and up to Manchester.

I personally Came up Nada Sign. But was told that a guide runs dogs there. Go figure.

I hunted the area near 10 mile rd. over the Garcia river and North about 3-5 miles before I headed back to the rivers edge to get my bearings to get back to the truck.

It’s unfortunate but like most of California most of the land that holds pigs is private. I grew up in Burney my self and we used to go to Oakrun and and stackem up, I have also found a lot of pigs out in igo and ono area and all over the paskanta pass area. We have taken a few in old Shasta and in Weaverville, another great place we stacked them was the battle creek canyon area just off 44 south east of Palo Cedro. I can tell you there are pigs all over the area there but most of it is private and most of the people I knew up there used them to get thru the winter because logging shutdown for the winter. One place I can tell you is IF you can get back on the hills behind ditty wells area on your way down 299 just before the CDF station there you will find pigs on the north and south side of the ridge. The road goes all the way to Jones valley!! Good luck and if you do find some with this info please email me. I miss home!!

Hey guys

Thanks alot for the help. Deer season is almost here so after I get my deer and bear I am going to try to go for some pigs (when I'm not duck or goose hunting). Any way I'll let you know how we do.

Thanks again
