Just recently went on a guided hog hunt north of Atascadero (Parkfield)...lots of animals, but always sows with piglets (not ethical to shoot her at this time, of course), or "juvenils". We saw only one boar, and he decided it was time to head for the thick stuff even before legal light.

Anyway, I really want to go again (even my wife wants to go again!!!), just don't want to pay a guide. Do any of you know were a guy can pay a reasonable trespass fee, or hunt on public land-and actually have a good opportunity to bag a hog?

I live in Phoenix, AZ, so I could drive to any of several states .

Any insight would be of help.

We went with Boaring Experiences (Kyler Hamann). He is very personable, knows the animals and the land he hunts. We liked him alot, if interested he has a web site under "Boaring Experiences."

The area we hunted had lots of hogs and it is beautiful country. Oh, and the little cafe in Parkfield has very good food, service and large portions!

Were do you normally hunt?

One word... Tejon
<

Ooops...Two words... Camp Roberts
<

I have never been to CR, but those who have seem to really enjoy it.

Tejon Ranch is a little pricey, but well worth the $300 (for the POR events).

i recommend "Hogs Wild" (see my photo in this forum..scroll down to the "good results at hogs wild" title). They have 2 areas.. archery only and rifle. the rifle is a little more expensive. I think the rifle is either $350 or $400 or something around there and you can stay in a rustic cabin for $10 on the ranch, shower and bbq pit. The ranch is in Coalinga and well worth the drive for me (I live in Sacramento).

One of the best and TOUGHEST hunts of my life.
