Anybody out there know of public land where a guy might go in northern CA (Red Bluff, Redding) . I know public land is not the best but I want to at least get out to where a pig could be.
I've heard southern Trinity County might have hogs. Is Arrow Five outfitters still in business? Go to the fish and game office in Redding and ask to speak to a wildlife biologist about public land options.
Thanks guys, I was hoping to find some BLM land closer to home that might produce a pig. I already contacted DFG and they did not give any usable info. There are pigs all around here, last spring I would drive by a herd at least every other day on my way home, on private land of course. Last month I had found sign in my own back yard(10+ acres) went out one night and could hear them, but was never able to see them in daylight.
I have never got a pig and it is frustrating to have them so close yet not be able to go out and get them.
I have personally seen hogs on Spring Branch and Paynes Creek BLM areas (between Redding/Red bluff)....Granted only twice at both locations but hogs none the less.
Whoa pacmule...put a trail cam in the back yard and see if they are coming by with any regularity. Then you put out some goodies, cracked corn from the feed store works, or fermented corn mix, you rig up a red taillight over the area, powered with a car battery rig, and wait them out. When you hear them, turn up the light using a reostat thing a ma jig, Won't bother them a bit. I've shined my SureFire flashlight on them and haven' t spooked them a bit. Then you stick em with your bow! Oops...darn...forgot...we live in Kaliforniastan and can't do that kind of thing. It is against the wild pig management plan as set forth by the Department of Fish and Game and therefore is illegal and cannot be done. I"ve only heard that kind of technique works from people who live and hunt pigs in Texas. You will have to continue hunting the swine during the time when they are not out and moving around, chancing upon them when the piggies deign to come out from the deep cover to cavort in the open fields in the sunlight, just like the rest of us law abiding pig hunters.

camsoup, thanks, that was where I was thinking of trying. It may not be the best spot, probably hit and miss, but close enough to home to check it out more often.
TRey, I did do the first part, borrowed my dads trailcam got pictures of racoons, does, one nice buck, but no piggies. I am sure they have moved on but either them or others will be back, I just have to make sure to check often enough to know when they are in the area.
