As the title says, which zones would you say the were the best for hogs at Hunter Liggett?
I havent hunter there, but, I am planning on burning my A24 tag there. A hog would be a good bonus.

Best bet for pigs at FHL would be area's 3(archery only), 7, 9, 10/13, 15, 16, 24, 27, 29, and 30. There are a few pigs in area 6 down low. But the best chances for pigs would be in those area's.

And good luck with your A24 tag. Seen some nice bucks at FHL during quail season.

Cory - When is your A24 tag good? We were planning on going up there the weekend before the quail opener to try and beat some of the crowds. I have been dying to get up there but haven't been willing to brave the crowds during A-zone deer season. Hopefully it will be a little cooler by then as well.

Quail opens on the 15th, we are going to stay there 10/8 & 10/9 hoping that things will have calmed down after the deer season. As far as zones, I have heard the best hunting for hogs is 24, 29, 30 & 10/13. I have been up there several times this year and it depends on what areas are open. They update their website every Thursday and let you know what areas will be open.

I haven't been since before deer season and went a few times during the hotter months of summer. That's nice that it was cool for you that weekend, I much rather have it cooler weather. Nice job on the hog. This is the first year hunting there and I don't think I have been there when 9 has been open, though driving by it looked good because of the resevior.

Nice Congrats on the 3x3.. and your buddies forky. I didn't get to hunt this passed weekend, but my dad jumped a 4x4 and got buck fever. Shot and missed. So he's still out there lol.

Bjake.. the resevoirs by 9 are Del Venturi, and gravel pit to an extent i guess.. but it's across the river towards the base.. and then stony valley.. nothing really actually in 9.

last weekend coming up.. and it's usually a good one. a friend nailed a huge 21-22 wide by 16-17 high forky last year on the last night of the season. talk about last minute.. but was worth it. I know i'll be hunting until sunday night up there. still have that last tag to fill.

Ive hunted A-24 at hunter liggett several times, but not for about 5 years. The opening weekend was always really good. The bucks are usually rutting pretty good by then, and there are monsters out there. One time I hunted there I filled my deer tag with a doe 20 minutes into the season, then that evening missed a nice boar. Would have been too perfect of a day to nail a hog and a deer. The following evening I blew a stalk on some more hogs. Area 3 seemed to get hit hard during the A-24 hunts.....might be a good bet to get set up in a bordering area and wait for everything that gets pushed out. Maybe area 2 is worth a look..

Hi guys
<

Thanks Chadster :) Sorry I been out of the forum for awhile. It's been kinda crazy at work since it's the busy season but THANK GOODNESS it's the last weekend for Rifle Deer Season!
<

CaliJeepHuntr is right about those areas. Those are the ones I always recommend. Not too many pig hunters during rifle deer season- but TA's 9, 29, & 24 did well for the ones hunted just for pigs.

Well, hope to see you guys soon!

The pink keyboard!!!! Hi Rannie, hope it hasnt been too bad with all those nasty rifle hunters. Soon you will have the A24 onslaught.
Thanks for the info... and thanks to the guys too. This will be the first time that I have been down to Hunter Liggett, so everything is invaluable.
Someone said that there were maps around here somewhere? Can someone point them out, and how recent are they?

Thanks again.

Under the hunting information link at the top of JHO then go to California Hunting Info and then Fort Hunter-Liggett. They have some info and maps in pdf form.

Hi again guys...

We just found out on Friday that Rochelle & I can no longer accept permit applications over the counter. We were given instructions by the boss and we're very sorry but there's really nothing we can do. Rochelle & I tried to make it easier and more convenient for you guys to be able to purchase one at the registration office, especially to the new hunters or the ones who drove 300 miles to get to FHL and didn't know about the permits.

*Sigh* So... just giving some of you guys a heads up in case you were planning on just purchasing a permit at the window. I know some of you were happy that I changed the program a little by allowing you to be able to bring a money order and your permit application at the window, but apparently we were told to stop because it's not part of our "scope of work"... whatever...
<

Let me know if any of you need help on getting a permit app or the address to mail it in. Sorry for any inconvenience guys...
