Which Lens?

I really want to get a new lens for my Rebel but cant decide on which one to get. The majority of what I will be using it for his "hero shots" of game taken by family and friends. I also like to go out and take pictures when we go for hikes or walks with the dogs and such. Basicaly I want a good all around lens that I can get some background blur when taking portraits but still be able to take some nice nature photos. I am kind of new to the whole SLR camera thing so any help is appreciated. I would like to have some zooming capability also. I was thinking of getting this one, any thoughts?

I was eating cereal just now and started looking over the page and thought, boy that is one ugly camera lens! Then I happend to catch a glimpse of what looked like a five figure price tag and spit honey bunches of oats all over my computer screen laughing out loud!!!! That is fricken hilarious!

Maybe we will try this, what is your favorite all around lens to use?

Depends on how much you wanna spend......but if it were me I would get either the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM (about $1130) or the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM (about $1040). I would not spend $700 on an EF-S lens....they don't have the quality, durability and dirt/water resistance an L series lens would have.

Although I have a EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM that I got with my 40D I'd be willing to sell ya for half that.... I just got it back from Canon who cleaned and adjusted it. I've only had it three months and sent it in to have a large chunk of dust removed from the inside of the front element.
