Was not lucky on sheds this morning but did score on a beauty of a suburban buck. I found this guy in a thin strip of woods less than 100 yards behind someone's home and unbelievably only about 30 feet from where someone had been riding 4-wheelers. The spot is frontier between the viillage limits and where it gets seriously woodsy. It was in the edge of the cover in a mixture of pine, larch and brush on a nice east facing slope with a bit of pitch to it. I've found bucks will often be found in such a spot on the sunny edge of good cover on a slope and an east/southern aspect to it. I was tickled---good mass, bladed G-2 on the right, common base G-2 & G-3 on the left with mass and palmation across the base of the points. I don't know why but no mice or squirrels bothered this one and it was obviously from winter 2002-2003. All the bones were white and clean, all I have to do is apply the 40% Hydrogen Peroxide gel to the skull and it will be beautiful. It almost looks as if those "Lab Beetles" had gotten it and cleaned it. No chews, no moss, a heck of a suburban whitetail.

Actually not a single chew mark on it, which is unusual in particular since it's apparently been there for a year or so. I'm not kidding, if I didn't know better I'd say it was cleaned by those museum beetles. The inside spread is just under 19". Just very lucky I guess. I'll post it after I finish it off with the peroxide.

Davey, yeah, I do love sweet potatoes and like you I love a matched set of "slick' sheds with no chew damage. I've been lucky as just about all my best ones have been in perfect, undamaged condition.
