COHunter is right i have hunted there for my cow we didnt see a thing until a big storm hit and we had a foot of snow. the next day we killed 6 elk 4 cows and 2 bulls out in the sage flats on the north end of unit 3. I drew a second season deer tag for unit 3/301 if I get to go I will let u know what I see .
there are some resident elk in 3 and 301. The bad thing is most of them get pushed to private property as soon as the shooting starts. Look for some of the more remote areas with no roads, If Juniper Mtn is in that area I would start there. Otherwise the breaks of the little snake river would be worth looking at.
Looks like both areas have good success rate, 43% and 53% respectively, for all manners of take, not so good for archery seasons, but with 1628 killed in 3 and 1276 in 301, I'd say your chances are fair, I cannot tell you about the separate seasons, but only 23 archers were lucky enough to tag out in those areas, so the rifle or muzzleloader must be the way to go!!!!!!
