foul, you must have been very nice this year
<

which one are you hoping for?

Brian, that 1.7x will be a huge increase in zoomage (20x)
<
You may want to look into a monopod/tripod as well. I shot a lot of whitetail photos with the help of a 1.7x (totalling 17x). telephotos can help a lot.

Either the 17-40 f/4 or the 24-70 f/2.8 that would just about do me for lenses for a while. Then maybe next year 70-200 f/2.8 IS.

After that it will be strictly primes.

A 20D, might be where my year end bonus is going :xmas-hat:

CK, you might want to wait a few months to see if Canon comes out with a successor to the 20D. The price may drop.

I've wanted a digital SLR for quite a while, I said to my mom a week ago jokingly she could get me one, now it looks like she's serious about it!

Was hoping to buy a Canon Powershot S1 IS, but it appears this model has been discontinued and the S2 is a bit over my price range. Maybe I'll look on Ebay...

I had wanted the Canon Digital Rebel, but I got to hold and use a Nikon D50 at school, and was really impressed. It's a few megapixels less, but it also costs less. The guy that owned the one I looked at had wanted the Rebel but after holding it he said it was kinda cheaply made, also it appears the menus and options are a bit easier to scroll on the Nikon. I don't want my mom to spend a ton of money so I told her the Nikon would be fine. I could care less which one I get, all I know is my dream digital is a digital SLR, any of them will do. Ever since I finished my college photography class, I've wanted a DSLR, once you learn about everything you can do with manual features you pretty much want nothing less in any future cameras. If I do get one I'll probably spend weeks playing with it, film is expensive so I never really messed around with long exposures or any of the lighting tricks I learned with my film SLR, I'm sure that with a digital, with no film I'll spend weeks playing with stuff like that.

I've never owned a digital before and am asking for the Kodak Z760 with camera dock. It's a 6.1 MP. I think it will be a nice camera for the $$$$ to get me started in digital. I'm getting so tired of taking film in to have developed.

Travis, I don't think you can go wrong with either Nikon or Canon. The more important thing is the glass. I've seen some great shots from a Canon D30 with really good glass, and you wouldn't know them from a shot out of a 1DMkII or a Nikon D2x.

Congrats on a great gift!

My old Olympus 2100UZ is dead again so I'm looking. Something with 10x or 12x optical zoom. IS.

I really need something I can manually set white balance with. Is that doable?

Don't need real high megapixels. 3 or 4 megapixel is fine for what I need.

my little Olympus D-580 has different white balance modes, one of the few options it offers, is that what you meant?

I'm not sure if there are any models that let you manually set the white balance.
