Hey Tom,

Since this is a "special" opportunity I am going on my first guided hunt! As Huntnup pointed out it's gonna be a cold hunt, so I want someone to take care of me for a change. Shoot me an email with your contact information and I'll do the same. If I happen to get lucky enough and you haven't scored yet I might be able to let you know where we saw elk. If you score early, you can get me pumped up with your success! My email is rodngun@earthlink.net. Are you going for the opener?

Tom,

I did not end up filling my tag, we looked at bulls every day and on one day I looked at three thru my rifle scope, but did not let him have it. We spotted a really big bull one day and he just kept giving me the slip. I would be will to bet that he is still up there. He is just massive. Email me and I will give you some more info.

Good luck and have fun

I just recived the tag in the mail and my guide finally called from NV. He was in Idaho hunting. He shot 5 350-380 point bulls on the early hunt. He said that there was atleast 5 big bulls left up on the hill and at least one with my name on it
<
He has personally seen 5 bulls over 350 up to 380 I ride into camp friday. I can't wait.

Well I got home this morning at 3:00am It was a long hunt and very cold but I finally got a nice bull on the last day of the hunt. He has a broken fourth on the right side but he is still big.

I don't have the time now but I'll post the long story and pics this afternoon. I have to go to school and take a final now.

Well here is the long story. I have to go to school so I could only hunt the weekends fri-sund. I went the first weekend of the season and we road horses up to a high camp. One guy on the hunt killed a samller but very odd bull the first thing the frist morning. It hade three horns. 6x2x3 Only small bulls were left in the canyon so after hiking alot in the cold snow and seeing 12 small bulls we all left that camp and I went home for the week.

The next weekend we hunted and saw a few bulls but they were small or badly broken. Sunday the weather was terible it snowed and we could not see very much. we sat in the truck and looked at hunting pics most of the day. Then on the way home my guide decided he could look around the base of the mountain he wanted to hunt. He soon found three bulls one was a great six point that we went after. The cloudy skies mad daylight dissapere fast with only a few minutes of light we got to 500 yards and set up for a shot. I missed twice and we went to look for blood and found nun. The bulls all walked away in good shape. That night a new group of hunters showed up for there hunt. At fisrt sight I new they were touble. The first thing they said was they were going to shoot a big bull then stay for two days untill they had drank all the alcahol they giude had in the house
<
<
They only got worst from that point on.
And agin we drove the 9.5 hours back to sacramento for school on monday ariving home at 4am.

The next week end we arived on friday and the other hunters had goten plowed a few days before and were not geting along at all. We went to a new area and saw about 100 cows and a few small bulls. We also stalked into two groups of bulls. The first group had two small ones and the second group had 7 bulls in it. That night it snowed and we went back to the same area to see if some bigger bulls had came in we saw several elk right in the morning but nothing big. The other drunk hunters had seen some big bulls but other hunters had screwed it up. Then the snow rolled in again and we could see nothing.

The last morning we got up ate breakfast and we were getting into the trucks when the other hunters said they were not going to sit in the truck in the bad whether again and they were going home.
<

That is when I knew it was going to be a great day hunting. Eventhough it was snowing lightly I knew it would quit and we knew where some big bulls were
<

Sure enough as we got to the spot the snow let up we had only driven a little ways when my guide said there he is, the big bull I saw yesterday. We got in and set up the bull was in the trees but I could see him in an opening . There was also a smaller bull so I waited for him to tell me if that was the big one. He got out his spotting scope as fast as he could but it was to late the bull walked out of the shooting lane into the trees never to be seen agian. and it was the big bull I was looking at, and the smaller one came into the same opening a few minutes latter.
<

But the weather was still ok and we moved over the ridge. Again my guide said bulls, big bulls. This time we grabed are gear and started down to a Closer shooting postion. When we got there I said ther they are two bulls both mature. I went to a rock to steedy myself and he set up the spotting scope to watch the shot. The top bull was huge aleast 15% larger than the one I shot with insane mass but his 3rd and 5th were broken and he did not offer a broad side shot. He said take the lower bull he is longer beamed and only his 4th is mising. I shot and he said low eventhought the bull stumbled at the shot. I shot agin moving and missed. The bull steped into the next opining and stood I shot agin and the bull fell down. I gave him one more just to be sure he did not get up.
<

He was down for sure and we made our way over to him. The shot was 740 yards.
<
As they cleaned him the snow rolled back in as if closing the curtains on the end of my hunt. We saw about 250-300 Elk and about 50-60 bulls.
