Who's going early elk hunting?

Drew an antlerless archery elk tag for Unit 1 in Arizona. Hunt dates are from August 3rd through 31st. Who else is going on an August elk hunt? My plans are to hunt the opener for a week and I if have no success I plan on hitting it again for the last week of August. So when are the rest of you elk hunters going after it?

I can't start until mid-October. Runs to 3rd week of January, with a couple weeks closed in December for firearms. I'm not locked into definite dates yet.

Leaving in the morning for eastern Arizona, can't wait until Saturday morning. Got Friday to scout and then at it Saturday morning. Hope this gets you Oct. and Nov. hunters juices flowing, the elk forums seems slow.

Disappointing opening day so far. Haven't seen any elk and very little sign. Year before last I was in elk every day and this year they doubled the size of the hunt area and extended it from a 4 day hunt to 30 days.........hmmmmmm, do you think AFG knows something I don't know? I did see two antelope this morning, very unexpected. Headed back out for an evening hunt to the Flattop area seen in the background.

Looks like it will be close to Thanksgiving before I get my schedule cleared to go. Wish I didn't have to work for a living.

Yep...DIY and solo. Both guys I intended to hunt with have since bailed. Fortunately there's a horse packer there so I think I'm set. Just gotta figure out how the thermals run in them mountains...that may take a little awhile.
