Eating wild boar in Europe

My daughter was in Italy (Florence) over the X-mas and New Year Holiday visiting a friend who is doing a Fullbright scholarship and they had boar for Christmas dinner. She tell me it is wild boar, i.e. hunted and not farm raised. She told me it is both very popular there and has become much easier to come by - I guess that is because there are more hogs.
