My son and I were lucky enough to get a couple of pigs late Friday night near Cholame and I am looking for someone to make some of it into sausage. The person I've been using for years has retired so I'm looking for someone new in the Davis Woodland area. Can anyone help?

Not sure how the pictures I took turned out I didn't have the camera with me and by the time we got back to camp it was very dark and very late. If they turn out I'll post them for all to see. Thanks.

Orangevale meats in Orangevale is good, and I have heard great things about Morants on Franklin Blvd in Sacramento. I know it is not in Davis/Woodland, but its only about an additional 15 minutes to Sac.

I have used Browns Valley Market in Napa. They'll do great job.

Thanks for the help. I found a butcher in Vacaville that was recommended by a couple of guys so I took the meat into him today. If things work out with him I will post his name. I picked up the pictures today and they didn't turn out. I will write up a little blow by blow later tonight. Thanks again for the help.

My son and I were hunting a Golden Ram ranch near Cholame with a good friend and his son this past weekend. The hunting conditions were tuff to say the least, full moon and 100 degrees plus temps. We weren’t seeing any pigs moving in the mornings; pretty sure they were feeding in the barley fields all night and were back to their beds before light. But we found a couple of areas that looked like they were being used pretty heavy so we decided to sit on them until dark Friday night.

My son and I took one spot and my buddy and his son took the other. Around 8:00 we spotted a couple of pigs coming over the ridge about a 1,000 yard away but headed in our direction. Between them and us was creek bed that was 15 to 20 feet deep and I figured if they get in that and stay in it we will never get a shot, so we decided we better try to meet them at the creek. By the time we were close enough to see down into the creek the pigs were already in it and on the move, lucky for us they were headed in our direction instead of away from us. We didn’t get close enough to se the length of the creek so we could only see places where it made the right type of turn, so I got my son next to me and told him to get ready and shoot the first pig that comes around the corner. It didn’t take long before one showed up at about 75 yards, when it stopped he put one though both front shoulders and it dropped like a rock. The second pig came tearing out of the creek and across the field in front of us and I was able to put that one down. My son was very excited because this was the first time he was able to carry his new gun he got for his 12th birthday a couple weeks ago. As you might have guessed I was just a bit excited to. This all made for a long night but was well worth it. It was great for him to be able to carry a gun while big game hunting for the first time. For him to score was just icing on the cake.

Sorry the pictures I tried to take with the aid of a lantern didn’t turn out.
