I'll start a new thread in the events forum tonight.

I guess one BIG question is weapon of choice... I would want archery. When I start the thread I'll post up some questions to get a feel what everyone is in to. Maybe some are only up for rifle and others only for archery. Will a ranch/property we decide on be capable of handling both archery and rifle?

We've got some time but this could really be a great trip.

Thanks guys for postin' up.

Here is the response from the Parks & Wildlife Dept...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
The $45 Non-resident 5-Day Special Hunting License is all they will need to hunt feral hogs. This same license will cover them for hunting coyotes and bobcats. A trapper's license/ pelt tag is not needed unless you intend to sell them.
The hunter education course is required for hunters over the age of 17 who were born after Sept 2, 1971. Those born before this date are considered exempt. Hunter safety certification from other states is accepted in Texas also. Kids age 12-17 who are hunting unaccompanied must also take the course. If accompanied, they do not have to take it. Kids under 12 also do not need to take it, and they must be accompanied. Accompanied means that they must be hunting within normal voice range of a licensed hunter who has taken hunter education or is exempt from it.

Sincerely,

Christine Polito

Orso.. You can use whichever weapon you choose. We will just have to split the archery and rifle hunters to different parts of the ranch. Dont worry, this is not public land so no need to worry about running over the top of each other...

Mike, definately put me on the list. Just tried to put together a trip with Westy, Pitdog, and Pcamino in a few weeks but had to cancel due to scheduling and short notice. Spring 06 is great.

I have a friend with property 80 miles south of DFW I hunt with all the time that I'm sure would be willing to host a hunt for you all. You could camp at his place or there are motels 7 miles down the road in Fairfiled. We have 3 feeders going and 7 or 8 stands and a good pig population that he loves to hunt.

Word of advice, March/April is best, May at the latest. After May it is to dang hot and the chiggers will eat you alive.

I'll meet you somewhere across the Texas state line and hunt Texas with you. I would rather fly there then drive.

BTW the stands work great for archery, but DocWells the owner is open to any method of take. He hunts them with bow, pistol, muzzleloader, rifle, and shotgun.

Here is one I'm proud off.

As soon as we get a good count of how many are going, I will make the calls and see what I can work out for everyone.
