FYI-
Absolutely no reason not to shoot a wet sow with piglets. Piglets will feed from any wet sow and any wet sow will feed any piglet born of her or not. If you shoot "mom" the young ones will find and latch on to another wet sow.
Pigs are literally born pigs.

Congratulations to all on a successful and fun hunt!

There were 3 sows taken. I get what he is trying to do with NOT shooting sows, there already shows an increase in population and by next year the place will exploded.

The piglets wont die from lack of milk. Piglets will die from predators. The piglets will die before they can latch onto another sow. Even if they latch onto another wet sow, some will die. Give a sow 5 if her own piglets to protect, and she might lose some to predators. Give that sow an additional 5 piglets to protect (10 total) and its game-over for some of those piglets. I've seen a wet sow shot. One of the piglets was lingering by her dead body. The silly piglet walked up to me, looking at me like I was his mom. I told the piglet I wasn't his mom. We put the sow's body in the truck and drove away. I doubt the piglet lasted the night.

Sounds like a coyotes are in the area. I doubt that's a coincidence. Boars, sows and coyotes in the area. Sounds like the circle of life.

Mel/Eric-
Totally agree with you and certainly a piglet loosing its mama has some effect on survival chances. Of bigger consequence is the fact you loose a breeding sow.
3 sows depending on age have the potential of reproducing 90 offspring. On the other hand, there is a limit to what the land can support.
If they get too many up there some of them might run down to Sacramento and start feeding on politicians. :)

Well that's great that the pig population is stating to explode up there, with over 20, 000 acres there's plenty of room for pigs on that property that's for sure. I am glad i had a chance to hunt with u there a few year's ago Mel, had a great weekend I will never forget with great people and it was one of my most physical bow hunts I will never forget too. And 559hog if u are reading this post brother I know it's a hunt u will never forget too that we shared, how crazy it all seems when u look back on hunts, but good times and expieriance for sure successful or not.....lol.....tra

You guys did pretty good. I was on the bubble for this hunt, but couldn't make it happen. Just got a scoped slug barrel for my rem 870 12 gauge so I can hunt pigs around Sonoma County. Hopefully next time.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHO GOT THE BIG HOG!? Lets see some pics. Mel_Carter, congrats, what rifle? 308?

I semi regret not going. The hunt is always fun, even last year when we didn't see much. I'll probably go next year.

By next year the ranch will explode with hogs. I personally seen about 40 hogs myself in just one day. That being 4 separate groups and a couple singles.
