One more thing, fire wood. On a previous hunt we had, George had a full truck load of wood dropped off right at the fire pit. If he can arrange it again, do you guys want fire wood?

It would be an additional $10 or so, just let me know.

Address to Lake Sonoma visitors center is on page 2 just in case you didn't see it.

I used to work in a cabinet shop and have a couple of tubs full of great kindling. I can bring a tub if you guys want. I've never been on this hunt so I don't know if people want to get wood. Ill leave that to you guys. Just let me know if I should bring the kindling. We can both sport $10 if that's what people want to do.

I'm totally open to whatever. We really didn't have to many fires last time, so it may just sit there. But it was kind of nice to have just to hang out around the fire.

Up to you guys......

Now that I think about it, last hunt was dry and windy and George didn't let us have a fire. I think we will just plan on not having one, probably too dry any way.

Wild pig hunting guide

Things may have changed since february of 2010, but I was there on a spot and stalk archery hunt and I didnt see a thing. Lots of old sign though. Mavrakis hunted the land hard with dogs and it forced them in being nocturnal right before I got there. And then he sold me a semi guided hunt. Needless to say I didnt see a pig or any fresh sign at all. Like I said, things may have changed since february/march of 2010. But he hunts that land with hounds pretty damn hard. Just fyi. Question you might wanna ask him before you drop your money. I personally wouldnt hunt any land that gets hunted with dogs. Atleast not if im paying money.

Thats too bad your hunt didn't go as expected, but that's hunting. I've hunted that ranch for 25 years, the prior person who ran hunts there also ran dogs, as George does. Sometimes we wouldn't see anything, sometimes I would kill hogs right of the bat. Georges hunts start in October and run through April, so you caught the last part of his season, pigs were brushed up for sure. That's what happened to us on our first JHO hunt, hunted in April and didn't see squat, went back in October and seen hogs everywhere. We went 6 for 10 on that hunts with the others missing shots or passed on the shot. That's why we are hunting in October, his start of the season.

What do you mean he sold you a semi guided hunt, all his hunts are semi guided unless you hunt with the dogs.

If I thought there were no hogs there, I wouldn't be putting this hunt together. Some of the others who went in October may chime in and tell their experience.

How do you know George hunted with dogs before you got there? I do know that George doesn't run his dogs in areas where he has clients coming in on semi guided hunts, he lays off that area for about a week just so he doesn't brush them up.

I've know George for a while now, and know what kind of person he is. He does this as his business and busts his butt trying to get people their hogs, if not the bad reputation would start and he would be out of business.

Not to rant on your experience, just want to make sure people don't get a bad taste in their mouth about George based on your experience, i'm sure others may have the same experience as you, I know we did in October, but like I said,

That's hunting!

Well that may be true, the hunting with dogs make the pigs go noctornal, but this is the first hunt for pigs on this land since May. From May tll A zone opener nobody hunts this property with the exception of maybe 6-8 people and they will hunt for deer. The oct. hunt is the first hunt of any kind other than deer. I hunted here on the last JHO hunt organized by Mel, and I pesonally saw 25-40 pigs, counting piglets. This is the first and only place i've hunted for big game and i would return any day of the week and twice on Sunday to hunt this property. Bow hunting is a tough business and maybe this isn't the place to hunt spot and stalk with a bow. For another $100 bucks or so your could have hunted with dogs and maybe came home with a better story. We had Ten people hunt last year and came away with 6 pigs, not everybody got a pig but they "hunted" and that's what it's all about. Hunting is not 100% but if you get the chance to take game then that is a successful hunt and that's what people will get on this Oct. hunt.

"Thats all I have to say about that"

Just stating my experience folks. Also he told me him and some guy pulled a 200lb boar out of the area he had me hunting a few days prior to me being there.
Dont get me wrong mavrakis is a nice guy. He tried to get me a pig. Im just saying that after hunting pigs for about ten years or so, i shouldve known better then to hunt land with dogs.
Also i was on an archery hunt. I dont hunt with dogs. My personal hunting ethics. It didnt matter that I didnt get a pig. I spend more time backpacking then i do hunting anyway.
Good luck on your guys hunt!!!!!!! Post pics :)
