Well guys, this hunt starts tomorrow. I will try and post updates as they come in. I'm a little bummed, I have a knee issue that is keeping me from doing my normal hunt, will be trying to ambush some hogs while sitting a water hole all day.

STAY TUNED!!!!!!!

I left this morning. As of Saturday night (last night) we had two pigs for seventeen people.

The good: George Mavrakis is organized and know what he's doing. This is my first time pig hunting, and I don't have a lot to compare it to, but there certainly are pigs around and there's a lot of area to hunt. Of course a lot of the people reading this already know. It was great to meet some other hunters from this site. That's half the reason I wanted to go.

The not-so-good: There were seventeen people, not the thirteen people cap I signed up for. I think I'm in unusually good shape for sixty-four, but I am sixty-four. And by my standards it was too hot. If you're considering this don't go if aren't up for hiking say six to eight miles with around 1,000 foot elevation gain and loss at 80-90 degrees. I got moderate heat exhaustion on Friday. George's term was "physically demanding". I might try again when it's colder.

I hear ya ebrown, been there did that done that years ago with Mel when he first started the group hunts there and I was strictly bowhunting. Over 20,000 acres of physical terrain for sure u need great stamina alot of water and great boots and good glasses lite pack and lightweight clothing. sounds like u guys had a pig platoon up there to eradicate the little buggers.....lol but sharing camp with some awesome guys the stories and great food and knowledge u gain from a hunt like that can be priceless.
If cali wasn't so anal with hunting regs a drone would be awesome to scout a place like that for pigs. Even in the winter that whole lake Sonoma area can stay hot that's why I always like to hunt that area when it rains. For me 55-60 degrees is comfortable in that area but days like that are far and few between in that area. When it's 75 it feels like 95 on those mountain sides when hiking. Ah the good ol days I do miss it it though.
Well good luck on your next outing and thanks for the mini report.....tra

Ok guys, end result was 3 hogs killed. There were multiple opportunities, multiple missed shots, close encounters and 4 people didn't see anything.

I agree with Ed, 17 was to many people. George handled it great, but future hunts will be capped at 10-13. Heat did have factor as well, hogs were bedding early and coming out late.

I managed to pull off my furthest shot to date, 433 yards between the shoulder blades and out the chest = dead hog!

Considering the heat, those are good results Mel. The pig hunting will only get better as the weather cools down.

Can't wait for next year but I think I will be doing a dog hunt soon with George

Was one of the first timers. Even without a kill, this was a great experience, being new to hunting, talking to the guys, and overall learning and seeing beautiful property. Those hills are thigh burners for sure. Would love to do the hunt again next year! WIll try to go back even before. A big thanks to Mel for putting this together.

Congrads guys I would love to see you guys post up some pictures of the pigs that got shot and also if you captured it on video that would be great too.... If i don't luck on Roberts or Liggett then definitely I will join next years hunt with you guys....I don't do a lot of deer hunting but when it comes to pigs i really do have hope to spot some pigs that give an opportunity to shoot.... LET ME KNOW GUYS I have almost 20 years of boar hunting throughout my time on pig hunting staring from a younger age until now I shot 14+ boars and sows ALL ON PUBLIC LAND

Just a quick question do we have to camp outside or is there any small cabin to rest at???

i came home empty handed but had a great time! I hadn't been on this hunt in two years and regret it completely, i didn't realize how much i missed the comradery of all you guys. with a group like this it makes coming home with no hog a little easier. Ill be back for sure.

I had a great time, even though I didn't bring one home. Had the opportunity to take a smaller hog, but held out for a larger one. Ended up whacking a coyote in the last hour on Sunday. Was great meeting all of you, can't wait until next year!
