For you guys that get on private ranches that normally hold good pig numbers...how are holding up lately with the drought?

I hunt ranches without supplemental feed (barley/wheat fields). The litters are smaller in number (4-6 piglets versus 6-10 piglets per sow) and the sows are having few litters per year. The good news is that the acorns have started to drop and all of the long range weather predictions show lots of rain. I'm hoping this will lead to a bumper crop of pigs this winter.

Nice. Is this acorn info good in and around kern? Been way to hot here but maybe time to walk around out there soon.

On our land I can tell you the pig population is way down- we used to see them at all times of the day and routinely come across areas they had damaged significantly.
IMO they have definitely become more nocturnal and more transient.
We generally start to see an uptick in damage due to the acorns falling this time of year but so far nothing outside of a group that made its way past our barn a week ago.
The ranch behind us (7k acres) still has some running water and hunting is not permitted so I know there are a bunch still up in there- until they exhaust all that food I don't expect we will see them until it starts raining again.

I've seen more pigs this year than in the years past and the bucks seem to be bigger this year than in the past too. I've also seen more fawns this year than any year and twins seem to be quite common.
