saw this on the news last night, apparently its not just in Hawaii that one can get hes or her front lawn roto-tilled by our "favorite" omnivors.

WIld Pig news story on NBC11

the people living there can apparently get a trapping permit, does the trapping have to be done by a licensed trapper or can anyone with a pig trap help out?

Some of the guys who do dep trapping will have to speak authoritatively, but from what I understand your name has to be on the depredation permit. No special certification is required... that I'm aware of.

Ha! They think a plastic snow fence will keep them out. Even an electric fence won't keep them out if they really want in. Is the "open space" near the homes huntable???

What do you do when you trap one? It is illigal to discharge a fire arm in San Jose and you can use a knife as the primary killing tool in CA. I guess you have to use a bow or cross bow.

LOL,

I have seen wild pigs in San Jose and I recall that they tore up a portion of land near 101 where Cal-Trans spent thousands on landscaping, which makes me think that the landscaper in that story should be the pig's best friend.

Why not allow bow and arrow hunting to limited hunters under permit from DFG. Allow expanded hunting hours and require the harvested animal be removed in whole and dressed/butchered elsewhere.

There are numerous programs across the country where hunters take the initiative and help solve a problem. Where is the California Bowman Hunter/SAA?
FWIW,
Dave

alright, what the heck is going on in San Jose, i ride 15 mi. of the coyote trial every week and thats my starting point at 101 and Bernal rd. in so. san jo and there is al kinds of game animals that live and border those trails, years ago before i use to ride those trails i herd there were tons of pigs in that area but they were all trapped out because of housing developement and trail users. the habitate is perfect for pigs along the coyote creek that runs south and always told my wife i wish i was around the trails when there was wild boars all over it would be cool to get photos like i do of other game animals in that area, well it looks like their migrating back and will keep an i open, maybe if i get out there at this time in the morning i might see some!.............tra

My aunt and uncle own property over in that part of San Jose and they have a spring that attracts hogs from time to time. The problem is that the neighbors get pretty mad if we kill anything including shooting ground squirels with pellet guns. I dont think they would be civil if they saw me dragging a hog out of the spring with an arrow in it.

HELL, I'll come up with my dogs, and catch them all... or at least enough to save the yards. No traps needed, imediate results. I'll even pick up the dog poop!
