T.D. my point is.... hell Iv'e got lot's of points, where should I start? One, last time I checked W.U. was not a sponsor on this forum, therefore, by all the members posting about how great it is, basically free advertising. If I am not mistaken there have been issues with W.U. salsespeople using this forum in ways they should not have. This is off of memory so could have been a different forum, maybe one of the mods remembers what I am talking about. What is so different about me posting my opinion when members post theirs. It's an opinion and everyone has the right to do so. If I were beating a dead horse as you say, I would be posting EVERYTIME this topic came up. I ocasionally bring another view to the table, big deal. Usually when I post, the Ex-members start coming out of the woodworks and throw their 2cents in as well. If W.U. is basically getting free advertisement here, I think any prospective member should know the whole story. We've had discussions in the past, and have agreed to dissagree, wich is fine, I don't have a problem with that. I do have a problem with people making it personal, ie mallarditis. Have you ever seen me attack or name call anyone when posting on this topic? Probably not, I just ask questions, share my experience, and give my honest opinion. In my opinion, you fit the mold for this club, able to hunt durring the week makes it worth the money, for most of us mon-fri 40+ hour a week workers it does not. RELAX, have a

Wow, I didn't mean for this post to be another WU issue where people start hacking each others good and bad experiances with WU. Just wanted those non-members to know they lost more properties.

Everyone knows the club works for some and not others, some people like it and some people hate it.

There's nothing wrong with people posting their own experiences about WU, relaying information or whatever, it's not free advertisement, especially when the experiences are both good and bad. Some will defend WU and some will shoot it down, it's like that with most clubs, can't please everyone.

Sorry for starting another fire!!

No fire here. Other than mallarditis calling me stupid, this has been pretty civil and informative, IMO. Dosn't seem like Huntnlady took any offense, and none was meant. Me and Tree doc have discussed this before, no hard feelins on my side. Just showing there is 2 sides to every story.

WU's got it's ups and downsides, so far the upsides out weigh the downs for me.

I still love you man!

If you can't get game on WU properties, perhaps you should just move to Texas and do canned hunts behind high fences. I've tried that too- there was no challenge.[/b]

Huntnlady... Quit picking on us Texans!
<
Cali has plenty of canned hunts too.. Ever heard of Bighorn???

You and the kids load up and come on out here and we will hunt em at night and stick em with a knife!!!

Sparky, I was actually not intending to call YOU stupid although after rereading my post I can see your point. My intention was to call the specific argument of "are 2 pigs worth 1200" stupid. So for my poorly chosen words I apologize. I am one of the people you referred to that have a WU sticker on my truck yet hunt the refuges often. The fact is many of the refuges offer better hunting than WU or many other duck clubs. I also hunt deer on public land every year as well as dove hunt. I just feel like WU gets beat up on some of the forums and although many of the points are valid the club has good intentions. It's not a bunch of crooks trying to cheat you out of your money. I think they do a decent job of balancing quality and quantity which is tough. Try going out and leasing a property like Clark Ranch (about 60k per year) or Butte Creek Farms (not sure of the price but you can be sure it's over 60k), it gets expensive. This club has a lot of members but even if they have 1500 thats only about 1.5million per year in gross revenue. If they have 100 properties with an average lease of 10k per year that's 1million right there. You add in the staff expense, marketing, insurance etc and they are not getting rich by any stretch. I know a couple of the owners and I know that the whole point of them having this company is to provide themselves with jobs. None of them are getting rich from it. Like I've said before, WU is not everything to anybody but it is an alternative. Now before anyone starts accusing me of working for the club let me assure you I work for a bank NOT WU but in the years I've been a member I've met alot of members and the owners. If you are looking into the club go in with your eyes open. Understand that the salesmen are just that and if they don't sell memberships they don't eat (straight commission) so be a skeptic and don't just take it hook, line, sinker. Understand the properties are about half as good as they say they are and if that's good enough for you it's worth considering. Again Sparky, sorry for the name calling and good luck to all who are dreaming of recieving a premium deer tag in 2 weeks.

I have talked to many ex-members of WU and none of the ex-members from Southern California (that I have talked to) has had anything good to say about it. I won't go into detail since we've read sooo many bad stories here already. However, those from the North seem fairly happy.
I spoke to a real pushy sales person a couple years ago that came to my house and tried his level best to sign my family up. He lied about a couple things so I booted him out of my house.

I say if you like their system, go for it. They don’t have anything near So Cal that’s worth my $ and time.

The concept of WU is something I've wanted to do for a long time. Get some hunters together and split the cost on a lease. The problem is when you do it for profit. I would like to get about 20 hunters together and lease a 10,000-acre ranch. We cold split the time and draw days during dear season, etc… No bureaucracy, no pushy, lying sales people, and a fair usage split between the members.

Just a thought.

I'm not a member, but I have been a frequent guest of members, and I keep my trailer at their place in Williams.

They run a nice place at the trailer park, very nice.

WU is a no-brainer for those who have a flexible schedule. There is no better waterfowling than a stormy Friday at Butte Creek Farms with the place to yourself. There is no worse place than BCF on a blue-bird Saturday with all the blinds filled! It just depends on when you can get out!

With all due respect to the public land hunters and anyone else who doesn't want to spend $1200, the money part is really sort of a joke. You cannot even come close to gaining access to the amount of WU properties has for $1200.

But if you don't have $1200 to spend, or can only get out on weekends, WU might not be a great option.

Their only weakness is that they are run by human beings. While there are some good salesmen, there are some bad ones. Too bad the let the bad ones work the ISE Shows!

And don't get me started on patrolpersons!!! I could tell you stories that would shock you!!

Again, WU is probably a great option for those with flexible schedules.

Mudhen, one of my worst experiences with W.U. was at the ISE show here in Sac. the salesman, who I new through work berated, screamed and cursed me in front of a bunch of people, women and children included because I forgot to put mt member magnet on my truck once. Ya I screwed up, but he is damn lucky we were in a public place. That was the end for me.

I also thought it was funny that its exceptable for a salesman to show pics of fish and game that were not taken on WU properties
<
, I was amember and had a very low number on my card and ive had many disscusions on WU and im not going going into detail now .

All the problems I experianced were on waterfowl properties not while big game hunting .

I hunted two years ago with a WU ex salesman , he hunted with me as a guest on Wu properties and if the Nor Cal big boys new it would of been ugly they didnot see eye to eye on there sales tactics , the person in question is a member here and I wish he would spill the beans but i wont give the person up , it was eye opening and needless to say I am no longer a member of WU , for the guys and gals it works for
<
I guess when you know to much it just doesnt sit well with me ,d

PS T2 I am so happy to see this post ,,, "There are plenty of trophy bucks on public land, just need to scout and do your homework". I will turn in my tukey rain check for a trophy buck anyday when are we going to start scouting and what area when I dont pull a G37 tag

Hey Pitdog, now that UsedCarSalesman has about finished his 12,000 SQ.FT. home, let's have him buy you & me a ranch. I'll be satisfied with 10,000 acres. He can come if he wants.

Derek, if my inlaws ever close the deal on their ranch in x3-A, and we can draw a tag, I 'll show you some trophies. The ranch isn't huge, but it gives access to a ton of public. Or, get yourself a D3-5, and we'll see if I can relocate the 4 monsters I jumped on a Low elevation blm spot last Archery season. Their out there.
