Send an email to them for their free hog hunt giveaway. Every time I send one I get one. I've got three of them already but I didn't go. The rule is that the hunt is free but you have to pay for the lodging and guide fee. The lodging and guide cost is just about the same as what other Texas outfitters charge for a hog hunt with lodging included.

I see the free hunts, but I wanted to know if anyone has actual experience with them. Their ebay feedback looks good, but no one actually went on the hunt yet

Yes, semi-guided. The cost is only for you to backpack myself and my gear to my secret public land hog hunting spot every day. It's only about 5 miles round trip............J/k.

All jokes aside my theory is, as much times and efforts as it took to get a legal buck on public lands, just applied that same amount of times and efforts on public lands to get a hog.

There are a lot of guides/ranches in TX that have unlimited hog hunts. It looks like those guys might be cheaper but you get one hog? For $600-$800 you can take all the hogs you want plus a Javelinas, and bobcats/coyotes!

If I was driving to TX I would make it worth it!

I have hunted this ranch the last three years in a row and will be going back again in 2009. We get a group together and make it a private hunt (always nice to know who else will be shooting guns in your proximity).

Biggest issue with this ranch is expectation management. The first year we went, we almost did not return. Issues came from cleaning fees, freezer fees, go buy a cooler, processing of meat, etc. We were absolutely fine with the process, but found everything out after the fact versus full disclosure up front. I don't think they were trying to be misleading, they just weren't all that talkative.

Second and third years were much better as they improved their operation and we had realistic expectations.

Room is a cinder block building with several rooms and bunk beds. While not a "lodge", it was comfortable after a day in the field.
Bathrooms (flushing) and showers (hot) are in a cinder block out building behind the bunk house.
I enjoyed the food as it stuck to my ribs and kept me going.

Cleaning is done onsite for $45/hog and they can be deboned for an additional $10. Prices are a year old and from memory...
There is a freezer, but you need to pony up $10/hog if you want to use it.

There is a Walmart about 10-15 minutes away for drinks, coolers, ice, ammo, etc. Alcohol is allowed on the ranch.

All but one of us packed our own meat and flew home with it (a pain that was the fault of the airlines). The one person that used the processor had a cooler show up on his front door several months later...I don't think they offer processing anymore.

Hunting before breakfast and after dinner is from stands. Some of our groups took pigs from the stands, but I have only watched the Elk and other exotics eat all my corn...

Hunting between breakfast and dinner are spot and stalk, or more like kick and shoot... You walk the ranch in a clockwise manner (groups of hunters are dropped in each corner), and you work the property. Feels a bit like a shoot ranch except that I failed to fill a tag the last two years running. I did see plenty of pig, but I don't like taking shots unless I feel pretty comfortable I'm going to hit my target, and I'm not a good enough shot to take a hog on a full run... our party takes enough to share and I always come home with something. I have also had youngin's in the group and we try to give them first shot when possible.

Largest pig our group has taken has been in the 250 range with lots of meat pigs in the 80-120 range.

At the end of it all, I have had good times and plan on returning. My issues were largely due to expectations/poor communication and have been resolved. We have looked into other ranches but keep coming back to this one because of the cost and location (we have people flying in from both coasts). I would recommend this ranch to friends.

We take advantage of the $1 hunt special (which turns into $300-$400 hunt special after room and board, tips, tags, cleaning, etc.). Still a pretty good deal for 2 half days and 1 full day of hunting.

As an extra bonus, there are numerous exotics running around to keep things interesting.
