I was camping at Lake San Antonio this week and did some scouting and ran across some BLM land called Williams Hill, just wondering if anybody has hunted pig there and if they had any luck???

It's good free camping but I've NEVER seen a pig or sign there. If you drive all the way to the antenna farm at the end of the road you get a nice view of the end of Lake San Antonio

One of the farms on the San Lucas side of the hill has had bumper crops of barley in recent years.

A few bucks on the Lockwood side but mostly on the private land.

Here's a strong, strong recommendation to get out there if you have a little time and hunt it yourself. Even if you just take your rifle or bow for a walk and check for sign, crossings, etc., you'll get a much better report than you might find asking the general public on the list.

Don't get me wrong... I wouldn't discount anyone's feedback here. But, William's Hill is not a huge area, and if there are pigs there you're not likely to hear about it on a public forum.

The stock DFG/BLM response is that pigs there are mostly transitory, crossing to and from private land. Best way to find out is for yourself.

Here's my two cents worth:
Do NOT camp at San Antonio Lake with your firearms or bow- it is illegal.

Williams Hill- I am convinced there is hardly any water or edible vegetation, but stay close to the farming fields iffen' anything grows this coming year.

Loads of good info here.
IMHO, It is a marginal pig spot at best, because as stated the animals are down on the ranches with all the the food and water. I hunt coyotes there alot but haven't even see a pig on that land for years. It is a very steep and brushy ridge top surrounded by big ranches and in wet years the pigs stay up on the BLM land more than dry years like this one.
And like speck said best way to find out is make the drive, you never know, you just might get lucky.
If you want to have a better chance at a public pig try FHL or give deedy a call.

Thanks, Easymoney, I did get to drive over and down the other side towards 101, seen plenty of quail and one large bobcat running across the road. Very dense area but may be worth checking out.... I just thought I would ask before doing a day scout over there.

Valley,
Get a good topo map, check out the layout from above and look at the trails that lead in and out of that nasty stuff. It is very thick and the slight chance that you will be in the right place at the right time will have to be taken, you will only gets seconds to see them before they disappear again...
There seems to be more OHV users ripping around and trashing the area and that does not usually equate to undisturbed wildlife.
