Winchester accubonds for elk hunting? 300WSM

HI guys. I am heading out to big sky in a few weeks and i am looking for some help/ reviews/ comments. I have a kimber montana 300 WSM and i have been shooting fusions out of the gun and they shoot great. But after doing some research it looks like fusion is made for a lighter animal than an elk. "deer bullet". I started doing some searching and I came up on the Winchester accubonds.

Does anyone have any comments about these bullets? A lot of people talk about needing a bonded bullet. Does it really help? Is there any other bullets i should be looking at? Thanks for all your help!!

Mo, no biggie, necessarily, but it would probably be helpful to keep your thread together, rather than starting a second one... folks won't have the benefit of having read what's already been discussed.

Anyway, haven't shot an elk with the Accubonds yet... but everything else, hogs, blacktails, axis deer, and blackbuck have all gone down hard and clean with them.

As I mentioned on the previous thread, you don't necessarily "need" a bonded bullet, but it won't hurt anything either. It will provide a little more potential penetration if you hit large bones, or if poor shot placement requires your shot to drive up through the animal's body to reach the vitals. A "non-premium" bullet like the Federal Fusions you're already using will probably do the same thing, but they're not quite as strong.

Thanks for the comments. Last year i used the fusions. I took a shoot at an elk and i hit some brush in front of the elk. And I missed the elk. All year i have been thinking if i had a bonded bullet would have the bullet stayed together or not have been deflected??

In the situation you described, a bonded bullet is just as likely to have deflected. Hard to say. Obstructions can do strange things to any bullet.

The "brush busting bullet" is a long-lived myth, but that's all it is.
