Those all copper bullets(Barnes X) have excellent penetration. You'll love it when you see the pass thru bullet holes in the piggies. I am confident the penetration will also be excellent in the Winchester all gilding metal bullets. Gentlemen, for us California hunters, this seems to be the looming scenario, i.e. lead free ammo of any caliber or gauge. The varmint hunters and the rabbit and bird hunters will be the most affected. Big game is only one or two or three shots and the piggie or deer or elk is down. Varmint and bird hunters shoot a lot of ammo. 'Nuff said.

I totally agree with you Larrysogla, F&G and I were talking about this same thing the other day. FHL just announced last night at a meeting that they are going to big game no-lead as well- I don't know when it will be effective...
Speck- when do you think this ammo will be on the market- ?

30-06 in 180 grain eh! Very nice, another option to the Barnes to choose from. 2750 is a little slow but I guess it will work

It's good to see another player...

I have total confidence in the TSX's.

The 200 gr. FB's are very accurate at 2950 fps in my .300 win mag, and I'm just finishing up my final loading for my '06: 168's at 2890 fps with 3/4" accuracy at 100 yds. I think they'll tighten up a little more with this final tweak.

The TSX kills pigs dead.

Thanks Rancho- yep it's time. The target range will be real busy here for a while. The thought of looking for wounded pigs until 2:00 am does not appeal to me

Hey Deedy,

The TSX is really the only other lead-free option, so I'm glad to see that Winchester and Nosler are bringing in a new player. I'd also expect to see Remington bring something to market too. Federal appears to have already hitched their wagon to Barnes.

Unfortunately, some of the other bullet makers are gonna be stressed to get a competitive product to market, since they're just too small to spend the R&D money. Or so goes the common argument.

I've got calls in, but it looks like my contacts are all headed to the NRA Show this weekend, so getting responses may not be so timely. At this point, there's not a real clear indication as to when this will come to market and what the cost is gonna be. I'd also like to know if the bullets will be available to reloaders soon. I'm betting that a handload will be able to squeeze better velocities out of these babies.

I'll post up more as soon as I have it, though...that I can guarantee.

Isn't the patent only good for 7 years???? The Barnes X with the hollow point that opens up in an X petal has been on the market since 1990??? Correct??? So the basic design is no longer protected by the original patent??? Correct??? So some ammo maker can just do a little variation on the original design and VOILA!!! .....we have another all copper expanding bullet from some other ammo maker. Barnes is definitely going to make a good killing from the lead free movement. It is all about good 'ol American ingenuity and genius....really. God Bless America for coming up with all kinds of solutions. One good thing is that the all copper expanding bullet penetrates very, very well and it will kill your piggie. I have not lost one single piggie yet. The stuff kills, period. 'Nuff said.

I just got a patent and it can be renewed before the expriation date to provide continious protectiion.
It's similar to copyright and trademark.

All those bands that didn't protect are hearing their music coming back as commercial jingles.

This is my second year shoooting barnes and I love em.

I use them in my 7mm and 50cal muzzle loader and have had great results. The 160's in the 7mm make a clover leaf with holes touching at 100yds and the muzzle loader with 245's spitfire expanders are 7/8" and under at 100yds. Not too shaby.

As to Jesse's comment... I'm shocked at how cool John Nosler was when I spoke to him about their plans for new ammo. He totally blew it off with an "oh, we're looking at some things, but we want to see how things go first." Shoot...at that point, they had to have had this thing in the box and ready to go already. Businessmen... I'll never be on, that's for sure.

And I LOVE the Nosler ad.... "Introducing the first lead free bullet with a happy ending..."
