I am off today at noon for the drive to NM for my Saturday-Wednesday cow elk hunt. This is my first elk hunt and I will be with 6 other local guys and am pretty excited. It's a do it yourself hunt on public land. The weather has been bad (no snow and none forcasted) and the moon is full on the second day of the hunt, so I'll need a little luck.

Hopefully in 8 days I'll be posting a smiling pic of me and my first elk

Tear 'em up BDB!

I had a buddy a couple of years ago run across an old friend that owned a ranch in Oregon that had elk. Turned out it was in a cow only spot. He didn't want to hunt a cow so we didn't go. Got to start somewhere and from what I hear the freezer wouldn't care if it was a bull or a cow.

Also, thanks again for directing me to these forums a few months ago. I've already met a couple of fellow JHO'ers (manfreddy and campcook50… both helpful, generous, safe, and friendly guys) and look forward to meeting more. When you get back, lets talk about setting up a pizza/beer night somewhere on the Peninsula, or meeting up at the Sportsman’s Expo in San Mateo next month.

Kentuck: I'm just looking for a fun time and meat for the freezer since I have two unfilled deer tags currently. A cow will be just fine by me and my freezer :big grin santa hat:
