Went to the ranch yesterday evening to chase deer - at around 7:00 pm while walking a ridge I spotted a bedded doe on a shelf below me so I headed down to see if she had any male company. I was sitting next to a tree watching her when I looked to my left and saw a big round dark shape moving toward me about 150 yards away - pig! It was grazing toward me so all I had to do was wait a few minutes till it closed to about 50 yards and headed uphill, giving me a perfect broadside. Dropped the hammer on my Win -06 and it squealed and ran uphill away from me. It disappeared for a few seconds, then I saw it literally do a back flip downhill and disappear. I gave it a few minutes and headed over to find it wedged against the base of a tree stone dead. Big pig with nice cutters.
I got the quad and dragged it back to base, sure I'd killed a lone boar until I turned it over to gut it and found it was a sow. Biggest teeth I've ever seen on a sow, with both ears torn up (dogs?). She went 200 on the hoof. Got it all dressed out just as it got dark and then gave it to my friend the strawberry patch guy as my freezer is full.
Went back this morning and completed a Lake County double - for that see the Blacktail Deer Hunting forum. View attachment 88643 View attachment 88644 View attachment 88645 View attachment 88646
