Did anyone watch last night's episode of Sons of Guns on the discovery channel?? Seems the Red Jacket crew built an suppressed AR variant that fires the 500Gr .458 Socom round specifically for hunting large pigs. During the demo period Will dropped a 400+lb hog DRT with a straight on head shot; while it was charging the air-boat they were in. Then to make it even better they put an IR scope on it to hunt at night. Man that is one sweet rifle. Check it out. The episode is titles "Hogzilla Gun", and is episode 3:05.-ouch1

yeah, I watched it. It dropped that 2nd hog pretty well.

To be honest, I was more interested in that pinfire revolver they were restoring.

If that hog was 400 lbs. then I'm Mr. Mugu. Pretty cool round, ballistics comparable to a 45/70. I've killed a couple of hogs with THAT round and it works fine. If you give 'em a high percentage shot (chest), they're gonna run around a bit before they realize they're dead. As a "dep" gun it's pretty poor 'cause overpenetration and ricochets with that big bullet are a real danger.

not to mention that guy is a total egotistical tool. I LOVE guns, gun shows, gun websites, gun magazines....I can't stand watching that guy, reminds me of too many bad bosses I've had. I know through the magic of camera work and editing that the show we see is not really a true representation of what is happening there, but it seems every time his team members have an opinion he's not only offended that they're trying to give input, but he acts like a total jerk to them for trying to think things through. I definitely enjoy the show but the old man just makes me cringe. As for the gun, I'd take a BAR in 30-06 over that AR any day for hunting hogs, especially a supposed 400Lbs'er. Long range ballistics on that .458 round aren't that great either, muzzle velocity is around 1900 fps. Although it sounds cool I would not use a suppressor for hunting especially on that gun as it will negatively affect the already mediocre ballistics, and there is no other real advantage of it other than to quiet the report to the hunter. So yeah, 500gr bullet, but if you are skunked when the hog is out past 150 yards, that $8000 gun is worthless, and that's not even with the $5000 IR scope on it. I think a .308 would even be a more reasonable departure from .223 in an AR platform, would work well of any sized hog and it could really reach out there too. Seems like he's trying to reinvent the wheel. But it makes for good TV.

Neither of those hogs shot were anywhere near 400. That guy is so arrogate. There have probably been dozens of those guns built right in peoples garages way before his show even aired. He makes it seem as if he invented the Socom round and the AR platform. There is nothing innovative about that gun or anything they do. As for the suppressor, HUH? If your taking that many shots that you need a suppressor so the game doesn't know where the shots are coming from, then you probably shouldn't be hunting. He talks all that Pro-American BS when the majority of his products are Chinese and Russian made. I really wish they would come up with one of these shows where the producers didn't turn it into a three ring circus. Good TV, I guess....

From what i understand they, the old man and his daughter, dont run the shop any more. They were audited by AFT and found to be missing 10 guns. The guy with the tatoos that does most of the gun work runs the shop under his lic and Will and the daughter are his employees.

Even that new show with the guy who has the American flag paint scheme onhis truck is rediculous. At the beginning of each show he takes his family out for a five minute shooting session. Then they always bust a bunch of glass and othe garbage all over the place, pack up their guns and split. however.......that daughter, AND the wife. Do I even need to say it? Can I get an Amen?

Amen MAYBE, for the daughter, definitely not the wife. LOL. However, maybe I'm spoiled living in socal. Ha-ha.
